Had to be the dullest, poorest played, least interesting made-for-tv golf event ever in history. Worse than the Big Break, which is saying something. Who's the genius who put three of the least outgoing guys on tour with Couples?

The winner, some guy named Ames, is especially ill-suited for this. He's a great player, but has no charisma at all. The guy was in his pocket on two of the last four holes, and still wins the thing. They all played like garbage. Johnson couldn't hit an approach within 15 feet all day, Wetterich couldn't make a putt to save his life (nothing new), and Ames was spraying it all over the place. Plus, Ames insists on practicing his putting stroke while the other guys are putting! If someone in my group did that, I'd have a little talk with him.

Couples couldn't save this one by himself. If I had to predict, when the audience numbers come out for this one, this could be the end of the road.

I did like to see Freddy. ALSO I really liked the swing speed charts they were using. I would like to see that used more. I love that stuff. They showed the speeds and averages of the tour players and I have the average tour player swing speeds and distances. Just have to find a way to knock aobut 5-10 more strokes of the game.... playing 4 times a month just doesn't get it done..

Another problem is that they drag out the coverage when they can show a hole at a time instead of pretending it is live and showing drives, then break, then approaches, then break. Then Putts.

Just show the hole, then do the garbage in between. It makes it boring having to wait so long to see the next shots.

I also enjoyed seeing one of my favorites of all time Fred Couples playing again. I thought overall it wasn't to bad considering all four players still had a chance to win coming down the 18th hole. That's about as much drama as your going to get during the "Silly Season"! I'll give it a "B+"!

I kind of enjoyed the coverage. Just way too many interruptions. I did like the fact that they showed players' swing speeds and carry distances. I find it hilarious that Zach Johnson says in the current issue of Golf that he hits his driver 285 and the numbers from trackman showed he was carrying the ball 245 to 250 on average. Same thing with Couples. On average he was swinging 118 mph through the hitting zone and was carrying the ball 277. All these guys are shorter than what they make us think they are.

correct me if I'm wrong but the stats on the carry distance are just that.If you include the roll after the ball lands that would then be total drive distance,yes?Z.J. does not have a high lanch angle to his drive so 30 yards of roll seems believable.

I didn't watch much, but of what I did, I wasn't too impressed. I can't get enough of watching Freddy's swing, but I don't think I heard Z.J. and B.W. say a word. If you are going to have this type of event you need the players that are going to put on a show or at least remind us that these guys are human and enjoy what they are doing.

I prefer the Telus Skins Game that they hold up here in Canada. They usually have players that will talk and joke around, like Vijay and JD. They don't break between every shot and its normally pretty good golf.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
