I doubt it. Lorena Ochoa is a Mexican. I'm guessing he meant the title as it is... whether it's in poor taste or not is for each individual to decide. I think it's fine.

what's offensive is these folks bust their butt in the hot fields all day for pittance otherwise america wouldn't be eating so much fresh produce, doing the dangerous jobs in the meat packing industry, and all the jobs no one else would do and everyone thinks they are plundering our country, doing all the jobs no one else would do? thank you to all the many hands along the way that has brought fresh food to my table and sustenance to my life

Bravo! What a wonderful description of that out of control ranter! Come to think of it, that marvelous description fits a lot of the talking head idiots, on the left or the right, attempting to pass for journalists on TV today.

As for Lorena and her nationality, or any other golfer's place of birth: I don't care if she comes from Antarctica as long as she can play. I don't care if she's an Aussie, a German, a Brit or American. I don't care if she looks like a 14 year old boy or an elephant. I don't care if she inflates herself a bit ( a la Gulbis ) or fancies herself a pink panther. I do care that a golfer comports herself correctly. But I could care less from whence she comes. Now, my heart does swell a bit when Americans win; I admit I'm a pathetic patriot. However, if someone wins, they win because of skill, not nationality. If they make the cut, they made it because they shot a lower score than those who didn't make the cut. Honestly, I don't see why anyone would give a good damn where they come from, only that they came at all. I like the idea that sports provide a non political venue ( or, rather, it should ) in which people from around the world can participate and, in the process, determine that there is so much more that we have in common than that which seperates us. Once we discover this fact, we can begin beating our weaponry into forged irons and milled putters, build more golf courses and spend our days flailing madly after little white balls.

I don't think so. She was born in Mexico and I don't think she's become an American citizen. She's listed as an "International Player" on the LPGA site:

http://www.lpga.com/player_results.aspx?id=519 like every other non-U.S. citizen. She's an "American" if you are talking about North America, I suppose.

She's an "American" if you are talking about North America, I suppose.

Actually any person from any of the 'americas' north, central, or south can be accurately/technically referred to as 'Americans'. We've just kind of assumed it as particular to the U.S.
