And Then It Happened

A few weeks ago, right before the really nice weekend we had, it happened. I was looking forward to getting in one last round without dressing up like an Eskimo. Sometimes at the height of our reveries, when our joy is at its zenith... when all is most right with the world... the most unthinkable disasters descend upon us. While climbing down from a lift at work, my right foot missed the last step and went to the floor bending my left in an awkward position. I spend the weekend resting it, but it has been giving out on me. I finally caved and went to the doctor who ordered up an MRI which I had done this morning. At any rate, it looks like my year is definitely done. On the bright side, it didn't happen in the spring when the season is just getting started.

Man you are having a rough time Shane! I’ve had a hernia. Funny enough, I got it one month after knee surgery. Your issues are way worse.

Get better dude!

Well....

two weeks ago, he threw some new exercises at me. The next day, my glutes were sore, but it also felt like someone kicked me in the beanbag. I’m still sore, so I had the nurse practitioner (young girl about the age of my daughter) check me for a hernia. She couldn’t feel one, so she sent me for an ultrasound. After 20 minutes or so of another young lady fondling my 🥜 the results show a hydrocele. Look it up.

PT is on hold while the pulled groin and related hydrocele heal. My knee is more stable, but it still hurts when sitting down on a barstool or similar. I see the ortho Monday. She says that the next step would be to inject some of my platelets into my knee.

The original reason I went to the doc was because I have shingles. This is the second time for me, and I’m not even 50 yet. 🤦‍♂️

Could it get worse? Well yesterday it became apparent, sparing y’all the details, that I am passing a kidney stone.

Someone please shoot me.

OH WOW.   So sorry for your health problems.   Sounds like a rough patch.   Chin up.   You're in our thoughts and prayers.

Thanks. It’s been a 💩 week for sure.

Well, the knee is still aching, and I am wrestling with worker's comp for additional treatment. The doc wants to do PRP, but worker's comp is saying that I should be better by now. I'm not. It might be time to talk to a lawyer.

Otherwise, shingles pain is minimal at this point, and the pulled groin is recovering nicely.

Now for the new stuff. I've been going to the chiro the last few weeks to put my rib back into place after my dog crashed into me while I was napping one afternoon. He came flying down the hall and leaped into bed like he was dock diving. ::sigh::

I hear stories similar about Workman's Comp all of the time.  My nephew had 2 cracked vertebra and all WC wanted to approve was therapy.  Finally the lawyer go surgery approved and he is better now.  Do not give up, you deserve to get the treatment your doc recommends.  Good luck.

I had a hearing yesterday with WC since my employer challenged the additional diagnoses being added to my claim which would allow the PRP injection. This process started in January. Since their attorney is involved, I retained my own attorney. They got documentation from my doctor saying that my injury was caused by the injury at work which I would have never thought to do. We told our side of the story and the company attorney did not contest anything. Now I wait for the ruling, and my employer has 30 days to appeal that. After that 30 days, my doctor can submit for approval for the PRP injection which could take another 2-3 months if it is not approved by WC or challenged by my employer. There is no guarantee that this will even fix the problem.

What a nightmare. I asked my doctor what the cost of this injection would be and it is $600. All this over a $600 injection. I may just pay for it and hope to get reimbursed. I need to touch base with my attorney now to see what he thinks.
