The old and very hard to find RAM (yes RAM) Laser X2 Camber Sole 3 woods got the ball off the deck better than anything last time I used one. Very strange head shape at the time. Nowadays the shape is very similar to some of the latest models. The paint job/cosmetic effects are totally old school, though. New models are not as good at launching as this. I used the club a good bit about three months ago, so the comparison is valid.

It is an installed steel shaft and deep, closed face club with offset and a draw bias geometry. Also, it has a "fastback" style crown. The crown feels thinner than the face, sole, and skirt of the head when I tap it (just did). It is made out of the common 17-4 stainless steel and is not foam filled, so it makes a ping on good hits.

I can hit my Adams Tight Lies strong 3 well off the deck. It has a thin head. I have confidence with this club. I used to top a lot of shots with a big head 3

I would stay clear of Callaways they seem to be quite tall (on the clubface) (great if your a pro).

I dont think you can really go past the taylor made (r7 or v-steel). But the nike stainless are great. again, what ever works for you. I would suggest getting down to your local store and hitting various types of shapes rather than types of manufacturers. You need to find a shape (AND SHAFT) that works best for you

I've been playing the same Callaway Big Bertha for some time. Couldn't hit it off the deck to save my life last season. Spent a while just practicing that shot on the range and am hitting it reliably now.

so a shallow face is better off the deck?

taylor made burner fairways are sweet though i have an R7 Ti (Titanium) - it's super forgiving, big face, easy to hit off the deck. gets in the air easily.

TEE 4 wood is as long or longer than any 3 wood I've tried and much easier to hit off the deck. You can get 'em brand spankin' new for 110 shipped too.

Try the new Nike 3 Woods along with the Burner, or r7 Ti. A 4 wood would be an easy way to fix any loft issues. This is coming from a major club ho

I can comment on the burner. I had a 3wood (15 degrees) Hogan C455 and a 5 wood (19 degrees) Hogan C455. I decided to get a 5 wood (18 degrees) Burner to replace both. The Burner head is bigger but I can still hit it well off the deck. I also hit it higher than the Hogan 5 wood. I would't say I hit it longer when perfectly hit, but it is way easier to control and to hit straight.

I can't comment on a lot of woods, but I would recommend the Burner 3 wood

I'm "in the same boat as you" as far as looking for a 3 wood...From what I have seen/read/tried, I think the Nike SQ 2's, and the TM Burner's and r7's are at the top of my list. I've got a burner driver and love it, but was curious as to how the 3 wood will hit off the deck bc of its rather large size. I've heard nothing but good things about it. I will likely either go with a SQ 2 or Burner 3 wood unless someone can convince me otherwise...
