Just picked-up a new set of sticks and while I'm hitting them pretty well, the ball marks are towards the heel of the club (a little to close to the hosel for comfort). In fact, every once and while the hosel rocket appears to dash my illusion of actually having a game.

The clubs are off-the-rack Cleveland CG2's (if it matters).

What are the common faults that cause hitting the ball in the heel of the club, and anyone have a good drill to help cure the "heel hits". Thx.

if you are hitting it well, the sweet spot may just be close to the heel

You can try the common "cures". Stand further away from the ball. Put a block of something alongside the ball and make sure you don't hit the block. Check you're not hitting too much inside-out.

I was sh**king because I tightened my grip on the downswing and cupped the wrist of my leading hand.

what ball flight are you getting? pull, fade, slice? make sure you swing on a inside-out path. Also, make sure you get the toe of the club passing the heel through impact. Roll those hands through impact.

For me a if i roll my hands too early i make contact from middle to toe area, if i roll hands too late i make contact from middle to hosel area on clubface.

making contact near the hosel or even shanking is basically just an open clubface (unless you got real bad swingpath issue).

if you actually watch the clubface if you swing slowly you will see that if you dont roll your hands through impact you will notice that the hosel of the club moves away from you through impact and does not take a nice arc path.

The club could be a little too upright for you, which would mean the heel is the only part hitting the ground.

Your swing setup might be off in that you are not balanced. You might be shifting forward in your swing because you may not have flexed your knees....so you are swaying forward. Or you might be standing too upright and blocking yourself to where you are getting close to shanking the ball.
