I suspect your pro might be able to help…

Otherwise, put a tee outside your ball and don't hit it, but hit the ball.

This really helped a lot to make this a great part of my practice.

How far outside? A little in front, back, directly across?

Outside… an inch or so. So that if you miss it, the ball can't possibly be shanked.

i often have the same problem with my wedges off mats.  its unerving.  my issue is that i take a decent size divot and when on mats i tend to unconsciously compensate which causes my short irons to move slightly away from my body and thus a shank.  i think its the impact on the mats which causes this and when i focus i can usually fix but i tend to limit my wedge shots off mats just the same...

    • Sure, but how was your alignment? 🙂 Day 53 - 2024-11-22 Mirror work after getting back home. Wife is a superstar for her career/job/whatever.
    • I would say your back nine is the second nine you play that day. It's part of what makes getting some of those holes tougher. Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
    • Day 128: played 9. Nice little even 9, with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys.
    • @DeadMan, I think your approach makes sense. As @dennyjones said, consistency is the key.
    • Day 204 (22 Nov 24) - Weekly men’s group round today.  Temps in the upper 40’s, WNW winds 5-15mph - was the old man in the foursome (next youngest is my junior by 10yrs) - held my own against them.  Iron play getting more consistent -seeing predictable ball flights and distances. While the consistency coming around still had sone solid negatives as I had two dbls and one triple. On the plus side - eight pars and one birdie.
