Was about to make a new post about practice, expectations, etc and remembered I made this post last year when I started playing again. So as I sit here while it has continuously rained since yesterday I am reminded how little I actually get good practice in for this game I so badly want to improve in! Since this post last year I found a good instructor and have met with him a few times, started reading "The Practice Manual" by Adam Young (lowest score wins is next!) and have overall learned a good amount of stuff in regards to my swing, my tendencies, my flaws, etc and have improved my iron game but still got a long ways to go!

I've always thought of myself as a "feel" player but the more I learn about the golf swing and the mental side of things the more I realize all I'm really doing when I'm on the course and hit a bad shot and tell myself I'm going back to "getting a feel" for a certain aspect of the game is just letting my subconscious take me back to a place that is comfortable...which is not helping me progress towards my goal of becoming better! So right now I've always gotta remind myself to stop going back to my "comfort" zone while playing...especially if I'm expecting different results!

I think this happens because I've not been able to ingrain or get enough reps in of the new stuff that I'm doing so I've gotta sort that out. At the very minimum I'm thinking I need a good turf mat and a net, and then maybe later down the road one of the more affordable launch monitors. Anyway, thanks for reading if you made it this far!

That’s probably a good analysis. Remember that doing the ‘movement’ you want slow and methodically five times is better than 20 reps at full speed only ‘feeling’ or thinking you’re doing it. Confirm your position/movement with video. Hold it. Repeat slowly...repeat...repeat.

    • Day 58: night putting session for about an hour. Started with lag putting and ended with putts inside 9’. I need to work on putts from 6-12’, but in a solid spot overall.
    • Birdied a different #6 today (incidentally, also a par-5, but not the same one on which I previously birdied).  Here's the funny thing though:  it's the par-5 that caused me to post my "how do I avoid bogeys?" on par-5s recently.  So I guess I still haven't parred that hole.
    • Day 20, May 24.  Played 18 today, very poor ball driving.  One GIR, and it was a 4-wood from the rough.  Several other instances of hitting a green on a full swing (and at least one full swing motion -- a 50% UW) that wasn't for GIR.   Still shot an 87 and even had a birdie (chip-in).
    • Welcome to TST.  I spent a bit of time in the UK but I had to look up Wagon Wheels.  Don't think I ever saw them.  Had to Google to see.  Couple similar items in US but Google says they are different. 😁
    • Day 264 5-24 Worked on getting chest through and arms down infront of chest. Contact isn't great yet but on video looking better.
