Hello all,

I replaced a grip on my putter last year.
I cleaned all the tape off and I did not have any mineral spirits so I use break clean, it worked fine but it was tough getting on. I’m gettin ready to change the one on my driver. Does the tape make it easier to install ?

Thanks in advance!

Yes.  Much easier.

When using grip tape it is necessary to use solvent.  Mineral spirits work fine.  There are also products made specifically for the task.  Plug the hole, in the butt end of the grip, with a tee.  Pour, or squirt, some solvent into the grip.  Put your thumb over it and give it a few shakes...then pour the solvent, from the grip, on the taped butt end of the club.  Rub it all over, pull the tee, and slide the grip on.  Align it and wipe off any excess solvent.

P.S.  Make sure to remove the backing from the grip tape before applying the solvent.

If you’re super talented, you can even plug the hole in the grip with your finger instead of using a tee.   :-D

Yeah...but then you don't get to pull the tee out with your teeth.

Dang, you beat me to it.

As mentioned above. Mineral Spirits work great. The product that's sold as "Grip Solvent" will often smell better, however, if that matters to you.

Also, there are no fewer than a dozen youtube videos on the process.
I've been regripping my own clubs for 30 years now. I like to tinker and paying to have it done would probably get expensive for as often as I like to change.

Having said all of that, currently I'm enjoying the True Grips … wait for it …. NO GRIP TAPE OR SOLVENT NEEDED! …. I didn't even buy the Pure gun thing for the end of my compressor. I literally just use the standard compressor handle thingie that came with my compressor and it works just fine.

The PURE DXT Midsized is my current personal favorite. …. but again, I like to tinker, so if you ask me the same question next year at this time I may say something completely different.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

    • Phew... lol
    • Phil M was (is?) was a total cowboy in his day but served him well at the Masters it seems.
    • Rory at the crime scene again from yesterday (#15).. Let's see what he does after this piped drive. If he mangles this b**** again, Imma go out and jump in a puddle.
    • If you're going to make claims, back them up with facts. Do you have any facts that support this claim that Rory does this when under pressure?    Did the hyper aggression negatively affect his play when he won The Players this year making that 2 wins in 4 starts for him at that point? Can you provide some evidence directly showing how his hyper aggression has negatively affected his play?   This isn't even accurate anymore, they called the divorce off.  If you're going to criticize someone at least get your facts straight.
    • Why if you're just going to wait next? Are they behind? Rounds took over five hours yesterday.
