Has anyone ever had dealings with a designer/developer for a custom Golf App - like score keeping?
I've been on a couple of sites (Fiverr - Freelancer) and searched on Bark.
The only drawback is most of the freelance people on these sites are abroad.
Working through different time zones is cumbersome in communications.

I'm looking for US individuals to deal with.
Companies which do design work are more interested in Corporate $$ rather than small guys like me.

I realize there are many free scoring apps, but most of them are for individual use.
One great app is Golf GameBook, the only drawback is setting up the field before an event.
My only issue with it is when players jump groups, no shows and additions of walk on players.
The app is prefilled and changes take time on a PC to change, which I neither on Saturday mornings.
It also requires codes for player to enter to join an event.

I'm seeking to have a simple score keeping app which users simply enter the players in their groups and go play golf.
Scores are then reported to a web base application (like Google Sheets)
A vital part of the scores is the ability to transfer them into other applications used for various game formats.

Anyone have any suggestions or knowledge they could share?

I know people who would do that for you.

Do you have about $15k?

That's cheap, I got a quote of 10k per each App, IOS and Android plus web hosting fees and other fees
from a company in San Fran.

Actually, most quotes have been under 5k from freelancers for both combined.

I had a developer on Fiverr agree to 100 bucks who tried to scam me.
Wasn't going to happen, he never got a cent and Ii had hours of enjoyment playing him along.

That was for one app, and maybe a little server-side bit that would be re-usable.

You get what you pay for.

You'd agree to that, start paying them, and they'd hit walls and roadblocks and string you along and get to the $15k you'd pay a competent person and still not have the app.

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep that in mind if things go south with a developer and cut the cord.

After a month long collaborating with a developer, I now have an App for scorekeeping.
My concept was to design a simple means for players to enter players, select tees, play and enter scores once they log into the App.
The scores are hosted on Google Firebase and are sent to a Google spreadsheet instantly, thus a Live Leader Board.

The cost was reasonable, $2500 for both Android and IOS phones for development, plus taxes and fees and costs for Apple Developer Acct for distribution.

This system eliminates a pre-setup like other scoring systems which did not work very well for a Mens Game.
Problems like communications to distribute codes for each user, player changes in preset groups/pairings and expensive costs per rounds.
Once spring comes along, the final step of use during play will provide collecting admin fees over the course of the summer to payback costs by members.

The scoring App has been used through the summer golf season logging over 1000 rounds in our Mens Games
Things have gone fairly smoothly with modifications and updates to enhance user experiences.

This past weekend was our EOS annual Ryder Cup with 88 players, 44 morning matches and 44 afternoon matches.
I was on the wrong side this year, but hey it is always a great time.

I developed a spreadsheet to ease scoring of the event.

    • Of course there's not a simple or knowable answer here. But the whole Caitlin Clark phenomenon is a nice example IMO. Suddenly there was wall to wall media coverage and national attention and... the women's tournament got similar ratings to the men's and much higher ratings than the men in the final four. With every indication that there will be some portion of the uptick that remains going forward. And there's the whole element that Sue Bird brought up. That basketball needed a pretty enough white superstar guard. One who looks like the "cute little white girls" that describes most of the soccer USWNT that's been able to achieve much higher popularity than any version of women's basketball, which is dominated by black players and none of any race who could be described as little... I do think women's sports are in a good place to start taking off more though. It's really only in the coming 5-10 years that the majority of girls will start to come of age with post Title IX grandmothers (as in their grandmothers were allowed to be serious athletes). I don't follow men's or women's basketball much, but in golf for sure the women's tour has gotten much deeper over the past 20 years and only looks to keep going in that direction. I've heard the same about women's basketball. And the patriarchal attitudes that socialized girls out of sports and everyone out of women's sports fandom aren't gone but have def diminished.

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.
