Just thought I would see if anyone shares the unusual characteristic I have. I grew up playing baseball and was a left-handed batter. However, when I started playing golf, way back when, I started by buying cheap irons at garage sales. Of course I never really found any left-handed clubs, so I just taught myself to golf right handed. I guess it worked out pretty well because now I don't have that baseball swing throwing off my golf swing (although I haven't played organized baseball since high school).

*Raises his hand*

I write right-handed, shoot a basketball left-handed, throw a baseball right-handed, catch left-handed...

and I can golf or bowl with either hand. I tend to hit longer when swinging from my left side, so that's what I am sticking with for golf. I figure I can learn control, it's alot harder to "learn" yards

*Raises his hand*

interesting combo there...I definitely would be longer left-handed, but having never hit a golf ball with a left handed club I'm guessing it would feel somewhat awkward so I never went back to the left side. Pretty comfortable swinging from the right as far as golf goes so I think I'm stayin at that side.

. . .I'm 58 years old and played competetive baseball until I was 49. I always batted both ways which helped me out. I've always golfed right handed but on numerous occasions have had to hit one out behind a tree left handed!

I have chipped a few out left-handed before...definitely comes in handy every once in a while (i just borrow one of my golfing buddies left-handed clubs haha)

Im south paw in hockey. But its more than awkward to swing a golf club or baseball bat left for me. With a golf club, i have a pretty nice practice swing lefty.. but if i try to hit a ball i have absolutely no control.

I know a couple people who putt lefty but hit righty.

Can't say that I have heard of it, but seems it could be very likely.

okay, try this, point at an object in a room, some distance away....close your right eye. Does your finger stay on the object or move? close the other eye, one should stay on the object, the other should move, the eye that stays on the object is your dominant eye,...........does that make sense or should i seek therapy? im guessing thats why i shoot pool and a rifle left handed, i always wondered if my putting would be better if i tried it lefty...........

I've played billiards and snooker for a good bit of my life and I was on the Memphis R.O.T.C rifle squad... so here's what I've learned:

Yes, people have a dominant eye. Yes, it can matter in certain situations where precise aiming at a 2-D target is involved (like shooting a rifle).

But, in situations where you need to use your depth perception (like for billiard or golf shots, or even driving a car), two eyes are needed... you shouldn't be aiming your golf shot, billiard cue, or your car with just your dominant eye

For that matter... it is also possible for your eye dominance to change depending on what and where the object you are looking at is. Even if you are right-dominant, after an object reaches a certain point in your left field of vision, your left eye will take over.

Also, if you feel like you have a "severely" dominant eye... you might want to go to an optometrist for an eye check-up... you might be near-sighted in your "dominant" eye.

Golf: righty
Putt: lefty
Bat: lefty
Throw/write: righty
Hockey: lefty

I hit righty but I putt lefty. Always have because I played mini-golf before real golf. Sometimes I wish I started golfing lefty since I see better from that side.

I golf righty, bat righty and lefty, and I can throw righty and lefty. Once played shortstop right handed in a baseball game and in the same game I pitched lefty. I used to throw BP lefty all the time. Im a natural right hander.

Being able to throw right and left handed skillfully is quite a feat, especially for competitive baseball. Did you start throwing both ways while you were fairly young?

Throw - Righty
Bat - Lefty
Hockey - Lefty
Golf - Righty

I think the fact that I bat lefty and golf righty has really helped my golf swing from developing some bad habits. However, hockey players seem to be naturally gifted at golf and since I played a lot of hockey growing up I'm not sure any of those skills translated to my opposite handed golf swing.

I have a friend that's the same way. He always shot pool and a gun left handed but is right handed.

And for the threadstarter, I switch hit a little growing up but mostly so I could bunt from the left side. But I never played golf 'til after high school. When I played softball it really screwed up my golf swing. And vice-versa. I haven't played softball in years, but when I did I just batted left handed. And if I have a son, I'm gonna teach him to bat left handed but golf right handed. For the obvious advantages.

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
    • Generally speaking, extended warranties are a terrible deal and should almost always be avoided. They are a huge profit center for the companies that offer them, which should tell you almost everything you need to know about how much value most consumers get when purchasing them.  This is correct, and the old adage applies - only buy insurance when you can't afford the loss. This usually doesn't apply to most consumer goods.  To your second question, no I don't believe the offer is fair. They are replacing it, but it is not being replaced at "no cost to you". Since the amount being disputed (over $500) is non-trivial, I would probably push the issue. Don't waste your time on the phone with a customer service agent or a supervisor. They have probably given you all they have the authority to do. Rather, I would look at the terms of your agreement and specifically legal disputes. The odds are you probably agreed to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute. The agreement will outline what steps need to be followed, but it will probably look something like this.  1. Mail the Nordic Track legal department outlining your dispute and indicate you are not satisfied with the resolution offered.  2. Open up a case with the AAA (American Arbitration Association), along with the required documentation. 3. Wait about 4-5 weeks for a case to be opened - at which point someone from Nordic Track's legal department will offer to give you the new model at no cost to you.  They certainly don't want to spend the time and energy to fight you over $500. 4. Enjoy your new Nordic Track at no cost to you. I recently entered binding arbitration against a fairly large and well known company that screwed me over and refused to make it right. In my demand letter, I made a pretty sizeable request that included compensation for my time and frustration. Once it hit their legal department, they cut me a check - no questions asked. It was far cheaper to settle with me than to send their legal team to defend them in the arbitration.
    • I never thought of looking at it on multiple purchases like you said.  Yes, the extended may help me on 1 or 2 items but not the other 5 or 6.
    • Day 84 - Forgot to post yesterday, but I did some more chipping/pitching.    Back/neck were feeling better today, so I did a much overdue Stack session.
