I used to love the Titlelist DT Wound when I played alot. I prefer a soft feel ball for the short game, but haven't been able to find a mid priced ball out there that suits me yet. I'm just getting back into it after about 5 years off. Thanks.

Take a look at the Precept Laddie Extreme. It's a good performing ball, putts true and does not scuff, easily. (At least that is my experience)

A while back Golf Magazine published an article on golf balls and included a section that listed the apparent hardness/softness of covers. Below is a link to their apparent findings. I don't buy the results myself (I think the Nike balls are junk. Nike might have given someone at HotStix or Golf Magazine a little something to skew things in their favor). The chart they list on the link below does not include all balls (for example they listed the Taylormade TP Black but not the Red, and the Red has a softer cover than the Black. They don't list Callaway's HX Tour and 56 balls, and they also do not list balls that came out after the article was published). It is far from comprehensive, but you may find it slightly useful in comparing balls they listed.

I play the laddie/laddie extreme, and they are a very good ball. Not to mention you can usually get them for around $10 a dozen BRAND NEW (check out your local Wal-Mart and they are usually $19.99 for 2-dozen). Pretty durable, soft, and decent/good spin. You likely will not be disappointed with their performance.

IMO the best all-around ball in golf is the NXT Tour. Good feel. Good distance. Durable. Not expensive, not cheap.

It's gotta be a slightly used pro-v 1 for $15 a dozen at major retailers. Any one else just love the old titlest professionals? The were the king of getting cut up but maybe the softest ball out side the feathery and the gutta percha.

I actually like the Callaway Pearl. I know it's meant to be a "womans" ball but it actually is quite nice for a guy as well.

Those stats definitely have to be bogus, i can pretty much pick the skin of a pro v1 or hx tour 56 with my fingers, a one platinum on the other hand is MUCH harder!!

On topic however, another vote for the nxt tour!

I'll be trying Titleist NXT Tour and Pinnacle Platinum Feel this season. But believe it or not, Top Flight D2 Feel is not bad, IMO - not your stereotypical Top Flight rock. And you can't beat the price.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
