I don't like think we should be judging his lifestyle.

Why not? People who are well known are judged every day by just about anybody in the world -- Karl Rove, David Duval, George Lopez, "W", Phil Mickelson (re: thread entitiled "Is Phil Michelson fake?" [or words to that effect]), Barry Bonds, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Roy Williams, just about anybody you can name? Why should we treat Daly any differently?

JD is scheduled to play tomorrow in the Byron Nelson EDS championship. Does anyone know if he's actually playing?

He's playing, but poorly. He's +3 after 6 holes.

Used to be a John D fan as he broke away from the California bleach blonde golf machine image that was so boring.

Unfortunately, after watching his Golf Channel show and the 'wake' he leaves as he goes onward, I have lost my interest in this guy.

There is a new generation of 'Players for the People' - Bubba, Holmes and company that can keep their news items to the Sports page.

John needs help but apparently he is the only one that does not know this.

I don't like think we should be judging his lifestyle. He's his own boss and can do what he wants.

He's a public figure. He's someone others (including kids) may model themselves after. Sorry, but we can say that we don't like some of his choices. It's not for us to say whether what he's done is RIGHT or WRONG, but whether we LIKE or DISLIKE them is fine to discuss, I think.

My view is that John Daly has won 2 majors, a handful of other tour titles, has won on the Euro tour as well, and is generally hall of fame material no matter what he does from now on.

HowEver, although i am pleased that he has had his gut problem rectified, the injury cannot have been so severe if it only takes a week to recouperate or so. Not much of a case that i can see for suing Honda- perhaps he would do better suing his doctor for not suggesting medical attention earlier. Im merel echoing what was said on the most recent Podcast.

He was plus 4 at the turn, missing about a 8 footer for par on the 9th. So +5 for 18 isn't a JD quit.

I hope he finishes giving 100% of his game next round, maybe he shoots a lights out round and makes the cut.

He's got the talent to earn a tour card, he has got to improve his putting, and hopefully with the surgery (fixing some things) he wont withdraw anymore. I think his gut is messing up his long game, so obviously if he lost maybe 20-30 pounds his swing would clear better, and be straighter, not to mention seeing the ball when he's putting.

I'm an optimist. He's a roller coaster at the bottom right now, I think he can climb again.

I was one of the people that actually defended him. Now, I see that he was playing golf shirtless and shoeless. He followed that up by doing an interview...shirtless and shoeless.

I realize it's not a Tour event and he can do as he pleases. One day, soon, he needs to grow up. I would hate for him to become the Mike Tyson of golf. Or has that happened, already?

To my knowledge he's never been in prison for rape, bitten anyone's ear off, threatened to eat anyone's children, etc, etc, etc. He's nowhere close to Mike Tyson yet. He's a lazy waste of talent, but c'mon - Mike Tyson??

Ok, you're right. He hasn't bit anyone's ear off. And, we'll overlook the destruction of property and wanton disregard for the consequences of such action, the gross and out of control behaviour both on and off the course and his apparent disregard for the manner such behaviour might reflect on his sport and its participants, as well as his famous boasting of indiscreet personal actions, and let's just say that while the comparison to Mike Tyson might be stretching it a bit ( but not really by much ), let's just say that he is and has been a complete screw up: not quite Mike, but pretty damn close.

But JD did not ask to be a role model to children. Parents are childrens' role models, not sports stars. I don't think that JD has done anything heinous in i lifetime that i know of, and if he has, then so what, its actually none of our business. I don't think JD is a screw up, hes won 2 majors and a sack full of other tournaments. Its interesting how he doesnt get much stinging criticism from his colleagues who he plays with on the PGA tour. Jd still gets appearance fees outside of the US tour- because he's so popular. I believe that JD will be back after his surgery.

Daly is a public figure by his own choosing. Being a public figure comes with it a certain responsibility, which he blatently disregards. Perhaps one of the reasons his colleagues don't discuss their opinion of him may be the fact that they choose to take a higher road.

I, too, believe Daly will be back after surgery. If the past is any indication of the future, he'll be back to the same shenanigans that reflect poorly on the sport of golf and seem to amuse those who confuse true and deliberate rebellion with childish and boorish behaviour.

I dont think that what he has been up to in the past has been that bad. The media blows what he does out of proportion with a sensationalist approach to things. Agreed, JD is not educated in the ways of the world like other players are, but he 'lets it all hang out' (literally)- and i don't think that this is such a bad thing.

The type of behaviour I'm referring to has nothing to do with "the ways of the world;" I'm talking about common courtesy, respect of others, consideration of other's property and a sense of general responsibility. Letting it all hang out may not, under certain circumstances, be a bad thing; but assuming everyone wants to see all of one's bits and pieces is assuming a little to much.

After round one at Open de Espana, Real Club de Golf de Sevilla in Seville, Spain, J.D. stands at +3 (T-113); he's got an uphill battle to make the cut.
