Macgregor Forged Irons

Hello. Looking to buy a set of old Macgregor irons for playing with ? When were they at their best and is there a set that stands out as their finest quality ? My initial reading seems to suggest that 1978 - 1982 was  a great period, linked to David Graham and Jack Nicklaus ?

I would be prepared to even buy a tatty rusty set and have them refurbished with 2020 shafts  etc etc.....

Lastly, is there a certain BOOK on the market that will identify clubs and aged them accurately ?

My favorite older MacGregor irons are the PCB Tour Forged.  They date, I believe, back to 2000.  The set runs 3 thru pitching wedge and the lofts are approx. one club weaker than my current set(s).  I bought them used, several years ago, intending to harvest the shafts.  After playing a round with them I decided to keep them intact.

P.S.  Although I do not recall, specifically, what I paid for them it cannot have been more than 40-50 bucks.  Most of my older name-brand stuff came from thrift stores and yard sales.

Cleveland Hi-Bore driver, Maltby 5 wood, Maltby hybrid, Maltby irons and wedges (23 to 50) Vokey 59/07, Cleveland Niblick (LH-42), and a Maltby mallet putter.                                                                                                                                                 "When the going gets tough...it's tough to get going."

      No Relief When Clearly Unreasonable to Play Ball. There is no relief under Rule 16.1: When playing the ball as it lies would be clearly unreasonable because of something from which the player is not allowed to take free relief (such as when a player is unable to make a stroke because of where the ball lies in a bush), or  When interference exists only because a player chooses a club, type of stance or swing or direction of play that is clearly unreasonable under the circumstances. Either/both of the above would seem to apply

      Day 25: 1/4/2025 Mirror day. I did some good mirror work with a 7 iron. Once again focus here is on pushing the carpet away with my lead leg. Sort of like I'm sitting in a office chair and want to scoot across the room.  Later, I used the putting mirror on the putting mat. Rolling 8 footers down a straight line on the mat.
