I bought a used G400 max about 6 months ago it was fine until during a range session I hit a skanky one looked down and there was a massive crack in the top of the head. Ping was really great and sent me out a new one very quickly. This one only lasted about a month before the bottom of the head looks like it folded under and cracked again. I am going to see if they will let me pay for a G425 but who knows how that will go. Anyway question is has anyone else who plays G400s had their head break it seems odd to break 2 in such a short amount of time.

Where are you hitting those balls? On the face?

That top one (where the bottom folded under), that doesn't seem right. To my eye (admittedly I'm no expert). It looks like it was hit in the bottom not caved in from the face.

Are you sure it wasn't damaged in your bag maybe? Do you keep a headcover on it? Perhaps it banged hard down onto the blade or toe of an iron. Maybe in your trunk?

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

I agree. It also doesn't have a weight in the back.

The bottom of your driver has a lot of dirt on it especially at your screw at the rear. I have Ping G30s. Driver, 3W, 3h, 4h. The bottom of my driver is very clean. Have never gotten dirt in the screw. Even my 3W is pretty clean. Now my 3h and 4h get dirty on the bottom.

I don't think the modern driver is meant to be hit off the deck. They are almost egg shell thin IMO. I tee it up high and in the 4 years that I have owned them I think I only hit dirt with my driver once when I was playing in a rainstorm and lost my grip. I think if you are regularly hitting sod with the driver, you could damage it.

Yeah, I looked at it and the bottom is so dirty it looked at first like the screw and weight were missing, but it's just really dirty, with the screw head looking a bit like the hole, and the dirt making it look recessed a little.

The leading edge of the driver is so much lower than the trailing edge:

Even with hitting up a few degrees, not sure how the screw would be getting loaded with mud. Yes, it looks like the weight might be missing (or is ij just caked in mud?), but I don't see how that would impact the structural integrity of the driver.

Yup, zoom in....it’s just dirt caked over the screw.  That club is taking a beating.
