Our club is hosting a college golf tournament in a month.  The walking scorers will be using the Golfstat app on their phones so they can input scores.  I am looking to learn from anyone who has experience doing this.... you can PM me or below this , you can write about your experience... learnings, suggestions, things to look out for.....

One challenge we have already discussed, since the groups will be made up of 5 players from the same team (COVID-19 protocol), we will have to teach the scorers how to identify the different players... alot easier in the olden days when players from different schools played together.

Thanks for any help.

How about a firmly affixed number (1-5) on their golf bag corresponding to the score sheet on your phone?

It's pretty easy. I recommend you put a piece of tape on their phone and write down something like "white hat - Ed" or "Blue Shoes - Steve" or whatever corresponds to which player is which.

As a marker, I would announce to the players in the group they would be required to say their last name and indicate their score after each hole played. OR I would call out a name and have them report their score as everyone walks to the next tee.
If needed, ask for scores on the tee before anyone plays. Always try to position yourself in the area of players exiting the green in route to the next tee. After a few holes this creates a routine and you will become familiar with each player to help identify them.

Communication is the key.

    • Day 52: simulator day. Played Old Head and shot an “80,” which was probably more like a 78 in a non-simulator. Then worked on irons for 15 minutes, and may have found a good feel.
    • Day 14: 2026.01.16 Some swings late in the day to confine trying to embed the hip rotation I'm working on.
    • I don't know what to tell you. You can't test wedges with range balls, and you have a LOT more info to gather before you can begin to really even test anything else, either.
    • Day 27 - 2026-01-16 Played 18 with some of the usual "too many voices" going on when I'm working on swing stuff. Fun to get out in great bay area winter weather.
    • I know one recent college grad who's trying the same thing.  This guy was a Division III All-American, went on to play one year at Division I LSU, and is not working hard.  He won the Gulf States Open, a pro event, and made it to the second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour School late in the fall.  And didn't make the cut to get to the final stage.  I won't talk about swing or play stuff, but I believe there are a couple of things that are essential.  Obviously, talent, and drive, or work ethic.   I can't tell you how to do it, but you HAVE to get through it.  Golf is going to be your life, and it takes lots of work. Two more things that are really critical.  You'll need the facility to be able to practice.  My young friend stayed in Baton Rouge, as a past player on the team he can still use the LSU practice facilities.  And money.  Its unlikely you'll be able to work a full-time job and practice the way you will need to.  You'll probably need backing, from a parent, from a consortium of friends or club members., something to support you. Good luck, its not an easy path, but anything is possible.  Another young man from our area, Mike Brennan, just won for the first time on the "big" PGA Tour.
