Why is there so much tension regarding the Titleist V1 ball?

I've seen some really ferocious and nasty posts concerning these Titelist balls with people defending them as if they were their own children.

You can delete this post if you want but man, it's just a damned golf ball. Give me a break.

I think its because it revolutionized the game. Iacas will tell you this too. Billy Andrade won the first tournament he played with it. It is such a great ball-and made the biggest splash ive ever seen in golf when it came out. The V1 rules

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

Faldo was saying the other day the distance it produces is just mad for a ball a pro will use, as traditionally pros like soft balls that dont offer much distance.

I'll be honest I don't use Pro V1 because I love them until they are on the green but just don't like how they putt.

Any ground breaking piece of equipment tends to drive this type of response. And regardless of how Titleist came up with that ball, it definately WAS and still IS groundbreaking.

And thanks Erik, I appreciate the updated reading material from the other thread, I'll check it our for sure. I'm not on either side of this arguement, but it's nice to be as well informed as possible.

I think Titleist showed just how dominating they are in the ball category. Someone earlier said that Callaway and Nike were going to take business from titleist. Its not going to happen. I think the Pro-V1 is soo good because it is soo soft and the quality of the ball is what seperates it from the rest. if you ever look at a Titleist ball--all of the dimples are the same shape throughout the ball. Its hard to go wrong because Titleist brings that quality that other ball manufacturers lack. People knew about titleist quality before the Pro-V1. and then when the pro v1 blew up and started winning winning and winning people started saying ---this is a revolutionary ball that a quality company produces--so it got started from there

You think other ball manufacturers make dimples different sizes on accident? LoL...

golf balls are big business-think about how many are sold ie pro v, what they are sold at, and the profit margins.

I wouldn't use anything else but Titleist- now that sounds like a Gillette commercial.

I can't get on with Nike or Callaway balls-they don't have that feel of quality.

Maxfli Dunlop used to be very prominent in the ball market but theyve become less so in recent years.

There is so much tension because people feel big arguing on the Internet, and because some people do not know how to discuss a topic and structure an argument all of which results in an e-argument.

All quite sad IMO, It's only a golf ball.

Taylor Made since acquiring them seem to have them as a budget brand

screw the proV1.....most people who post here cant get their moneys worth on those balls, and im certain there are some really good players on here. As for prov1s, they're great....when you're great.

Give me a box of balls that will do everything I can make it do, and when you fire one off into the woods, you dont feel like you just knocked your kid out of college.

I've been playing golf for almost 35 years. That entire time Titleist has been the #1 ball in golf, that should tell you something.

That said, I don't play a Pro-V1. They are great balls but when I do play a Titleist it's usually a NXT Tour. I spin them plenty and like the cost a lot better. I also play a few other "top mid-range" balls, mostly I stock up on them when they go one sale at the end of a model year. Basically anything that's got a relatively soft cover and fits a 95 mph swing works for me.

What's in my bag (most of the time)

The pro-v1 is the ball that comes off the putter blade the best-through research and design-a typical pro-v1 user will be able to decipher the minute differences in softness and compression between its counterparts

im sick of all this techno babble-

..the great thing about Pro v1s is that you can buy them in Lake Ball packages and theyre still good enough to use in competition as they re made in a way that stops them becoming misshaped.

    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
    • No. But if I can still play next year, I'll almost certainly be even worse. That's the reality of not being young.🙁
    • I use GPS;  it may not be as accurate, but neither am I.
