I've played the Top Flite D2 series ball all last year, and am thinking of making the switch to the Bridgestone e5/e6 series. They're $5 more per dozen and have been getting really good reviews (golf.com, golfdigest.com). I'm not looking to play the ProV1's, NxT's, or HX Tour because they all cost a bit much for balls I may ultimately lose. I want a ball that plays close to those, and the reviews are saying the Bridgestone's are right up there. So the question is, D2's or e-series and what's your experience with either, good or bad? Thanks...

The e5 is an excellent way to go. I am going to have to preach for these Top Flite TL Tour balls as well though.. they feel great and I can't wait to use this 7 dzn that I purchased at $13/dzn. Apparently the Top Flite Gamer is excellent as well.. and is fairly new.. so yeah.. there are a couple more options.

I have been playing the e5+ for three rounds and find it to be a decent ball with enough spin. It has good length and good feel but nothing that I am totally sold on. I am going to try the gamer next.

I played the e-6 last at the beginning of the season to help with a fade that at times turned into a slice. It really helped with my confidence as I worked on my swing. I've since switched back to Pro v1, the e-6 does not provide nearly enough spin, hence why it minimized a slice.

If cost is a concern, I would suggest the Gamer. As a 12 index, I would think your short-game would be the next evolution of your game...you need a ball with spin.

My love for the e6 is well known on this board. I have a sleeve of the e6+, which I used for one round and had two 250 yard drives: sadly, they were on a medium par-5 and a short par-4, so they weren't where I needed the long ball! But that can't be blamed on the ball. And it's hard to complain about such a drive anyway. For the record, both drives found the fairway.

Get yourself a sleeve of the e6 or e6+ and try it out ; you won't be disappointed.

Ive played the e5 and liked them, might want to try wilson zip or wilson "fitty" also.

I liked the D2 feel also.

I've played them all and I think they are very close to the same.

D2 and e5 are pretty much the same. The E5 might be longer with the d2 giving you more control. Both cheap balls.

I feel the E-5 is easier to spin on short game shots. If you tend to baloon your tee shots, it might not be a good choice. Although it spins well I can't stop it dead like a pro v, on the other hand they are a lot more durable and as long as you allow for a few feet of release very consistent.

    • Fantastic selection! And very little driving between them. Fingers crossed the weather is good to you.
    • Day 20: 2026.01.22 Hit about twenty balls at the range. Quietly pleased with how the changes are bedding in, surprsingly consistent ball flight. Hoping to film over the weekend to capture new movement.
    • You might also consider a tune-up lesson. Check and see if anything in your set-up or basic swing is holding you back. I have been playing for more than five decades, but on occasion I've had to make swing tweaks due to age, loss of flexibility, etc. You don't have to reinvent your swing. A couple of static set-up changes might really help out.
    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
