Has anyone hit the new HX Hot Bite? Golf.com's rating shows that the cover is much softer than the HX Hot. Does it still have the great distance of the old HX Hot though?

Opinions would be great.

I used to use the HX Hot or Nike Juice but switched to the HotBite for my last 2 rounds, it still has the same distance but much better feel, give it a try for yourself its a great ball and worth the few extra $$

Golf.com did a great test on golf balls for distance and showed the HX Hot is about 5 yards longer than the HX Hot Bite.....

http://www.golf.com/golf/features/flash/ballguide3.html Also did a test on cover hardness...... http://www.golf.com/golf/equipment/a...696319,00.html I like hearing from other golfers instead of trusting tests. I originally switched to the HX Hot from Bridgestone e6 and there is no comparison. HX all the way. My only worry about changing to the HX Hot Bite is the durability. Seems some guys are roughing up the cover with their wedges and I never play with a ball with any blemishes. Just don't want to be going through a sleeve every round.

the HX hot bite seems to be callaway's answer to the NXT Tour, while HX Hot is the NXT Extreme's counterpart.

yeah, I think this was pretty much the aim for Callaway. The lawsuit will likely follow.

I have a trial pack of HX Bites sitting on my table... if it would warm up and dry out a bit I could try them. Oh well, maybe next week on the 4-day weekend in NC.

Just don't want to be going through a sleeve every round.

From what I can tell from my experience...don't think you will go through that many.

I would rank them to be similar to the NXT Tours...which work out well for me. For many courses...seem to work out just as well as ProV1s...where I can control the shots well. BTW.... How often do you change golf balls? A ball a round perhaps?

I would say one a round yes. Like I said earlier, I hate seeing any nicks or blemishes on my ball. If I do, then it gets swapped out and put into the shag pocket. I guess I might be a little obsessive compulsive? Haha

My expectations are also one a round also...so you should be ok with the ball. I haven't seen my ball get chewed up much and I get a ton of spin on my shots.

Sounds good then. Thanks for the info!

you can go through 18 holes with one ball? how? I always wind up losing one or two, and when I don't, I scuff them up so bad they are unplayable.

Well I play in the short stuff and play the HX Hot. It's a very hard cover ball. I straightened my drives last year so no more OB for me.

With practice...you will get to where you will go through 18 holes with one ball and where you will want to retire the ball into the shag practice bag. The key is not to stand over the ball and worry about losing it OB....tends to steer it into the ditch.

Its a great ball until you hit a full wedge shot with it ive just got a new CG 14 gap wedge with zip grooves and one full or even half shot and the ball is toast, not just a little scuff but un puttable.. sure it may be long and soft around the greens but at what cost? a new ball every time you hit a wedge? no thanks

I have a dozen HX Hot Bite waiting for some warmer dry weather. I have been using the HX tour (I got a free sleeve from work) and I really really like this ball. It feels great and is pretty durable. I have low standards for balls. I have played my last ball HX tour for 27 holes. It is scuffed up but not too bad. I am not as picky as some and I hope that the HX Hot Bite is a good less expensive alternative to the HX Tour.

I've got them as well, and they've been my go-to ball recently.

They're a great hitter once new, but they get scuffed up very easily. Considering if I don't lose any balls, I will go through a sleeve a round because they get scuffed up to the point where there will be protrusions out of the cover (unputtable)

I think I might go back to Titleists.

Well I purchased a sleeve of these HX Hot Bite's today and I was impressed. They felt much softer than the old HX Hot's and compared to my Pro V1's around the green. I would still prefer Pro V1's but for the money these are gerat balls.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
