Hi everyone! Hope your all well?

I started golf just before we hit lockdown 1 and played as a bit of fun. I found myself to really enjoy the game and quickly grew to love it! Spending hours and hours watching YouTube on how to improve swing/technique and for entertainment purposes quickly getting the golf bug. I bought new clubs and equipment and really started to take things seriously. I joined my local golf club which offered an academy route offering various lessons and enjoyable experiences. Lessons were going well and i had gone from not knowing how to hold a club to understanding a lot more within weeks! Swing was improving as was technique and found myself hitting the ball much better getting some good scores, however recently I’ve hit a brick wall with my game/swing. I’ve had lessons off local pro, changed a few things in the swing/technique, gone over various things but nothing seems to help at the present time. I spend time practicing and try correcting the wrong but when out on the course it’s as if I’m getting worse and heading backwards instead of forwards wondering at what point does it get better? Will I come out of this stage? Is it just a faze? At what point will I start seeing improvements and even a little more consistently, after all I’m not expecting to be like tiger woods in a few months of playing and I understand Rome wasn’t built in a day but even just seeing minor improvements would be something!

my question is, what do people do when you find your game has just dropped, nothing seems to be working and whatever you do wether it be lessons or practice, nothing seems to be helping!

I absolutely love the game, still very much addicted! I understand things take time but this has been a while now and frustrated is an understatement!

any help and advice would be so grateful and appreciated.

Thanks!

First you (along with your instructor) need to identify your priority piece that you want to fix in your swing.

Then you need to learn how to practice properly in order to fix that priority piece.

Often times when making a swing change, the results on the course can get worse before they get better, especially if the new swing change isn't fully ingrained yet and your on course swing is a mixture of both the bad and good swings that can result in temporarily higher scores.

Keep practicing properly and work on your priority piece(s) and you'll get better over time, not overnight.

    • Thank you.  I'll cross it off the list since it isn't going to achieve what I want.
    • While it does turn out that both Tiger and Phil are less squeaky clean than I previously believed, I don't think golf quite has the worst in professional sports.  Or maybe they're better at image management.   Obviously I'm not fond of Phil's issue we're discussing in this thread (or his involvement with LIV) or Tiger's choices of how to drive.  I used to really like Dustin Johnson and, even before the LIV situation, we started to hear rumors that he bought more snow than Seward, although I don't think those stories were ever substantiated.  Meanwhile, I did think of Anthony Kim as the "good, bad boy" of the tour for a while fifteen years ago because of his party persona -- and if it turns out the worst he did was show up hung over to play (barring what one thinks of LIV), that's pretty good.  And I'm still happy he found a way to get his life clean. If we contrast that with some other sports I enjoy, I'm sure we could find a nice long list of NFL players that, at one point in my life, I was quite fond of, we get far worse disappointments (to put it mildly).
    • Answering that properly would land me in hot water, so I'm not going to. I don't think that many people would do that. I think that in certain circumstances many people would be willing to overlook someone doing that. But I was really referring to what I assumed was Tiger's transgressions (cheating on his wife) not Phil's.
    • No! Is a large part of the human population selfish, apathetic and cuts corners in the name of self-preservation 'more than they would like to admit', yes. Degenerate, scum, etc?.. no!! Most humans/men would not grope a woman like Phil is accused of doing (I think he absolutely did). That is scum. I mean what % of men do you think would do that? Seriously??
