Isn’t there an age cut off where you can at least move up to the yellow tees? I think in the UK they have like mens medal, then yellow and womens tees.

All tees have to be rated in order for a course to be able to be acceptable for GHIN and the world handicap system…

So what I’m asking is, couldn’t you have a comp from a forward tee that would count toward handicap (you’d just have a different course handicap from the forward tees.) SSS is no longer the standard. It’s now the Course Rating.

I know The UK just started complying with the World Handicap System. But I think Golf Australia may be behind because of COVID… am I wrong?

We are using that system but I think it really just comes down to the way golf is played here. But I like the idea.

It's actually quite simple - you play "in the comp".

My club has experimented with one day a week having the option of playing from three different tees but only a couple did it so they don't bother anymore.  And......funny thing is, people do it because they want to play off the BACK tees.  I've never heard of anyone wanting to play from the front tees except when one of our pros did it for fun and had to play off +9 or something ridiculous. He shot 6 under ( I think, with a half set including persimmon driver.)

We have two holes with longish carries where, if you are over 70 and your handicap is over 23, you can play from the forward tees - but you're hitting your second. That's just a local "rule" to keep older guys playing.

People are just set in their ways and never expect to have the opportunity to make the courses play shorter. Typically, 60 or 70 year old golfers will do what they've always done!!

We're getting a little off-topic, but I should point out that "play it forward" has been a regular thing, and playing a course from more forward tees can be a good and helpful exercise.

I agree and I wish it were so in Australia!
