I sometime struggle with chipping against the grain of the grass around the green - say 5 to 10 yards, or so. Where you might use a chipping stroke similar to a putting stroke. Here's an example of the grain going the "right way" and a reasonably easy chip:

Here's an example of the grain going the "wrong" way. The grass wants to grab my club (I purposefully set the club behind the ball into the grass to exaggerate what I'm trying to explain). Any suggestions for dealing with these tricky little boogers?

Make cleaner contact, and swing a bit faster. Play it a little bit like a bunker explosion shot, and expect a bit of grass to get between the face and the ball.

Thanks. I'll give that a try.

    • Some sway is okay as long as you get your weight going forward during transition and downswing. Your weight will go towards the rear foot in the backswing because your arms and club go that way. As you get near the top, you should feel your weight start to move forward. As you transition, the weight should move to the front foot and off the rear. As the arms go down from the top, the body starts to rotate or pivot. At impact, most of the weight should be on the front foot.

    • Sounded like he had the option hit a new ball if he didn’t like the shot, playing scramble with himself. Hitting a new ball meant using an option, which locked him in to that option, but for the hole or round? And what were the options?
    • Day 27: Continued working on top of backswing piece. It was almost dark so didn’t really care about hitting balls so just used Almost Golf balls. Would have liked to film and compare to lesson footage but not enough light.
    • Day 303: worked on chipping for a while indoors. Chipped into my chipping game with foam balls, worked on lower chips there. Did mirror work both with chips and pitches, checking that everything looks okay.
