Anybody else hate the sound and feel of the newer, huge drivers?

what's cobras loudest driver? anyone know

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

A loud obnoxious noise attracts more attention which is the whole point of 'drive for show' dontcha know.

The Cobra 2007 Speed LD 460 is the loudest and most annoying. That's why I bought it. On closeout for $150 quite a deal.

Yeah, modern drivers don't have a great sound, though I don't mind my 905R I've got in the bag.

Incidentally, I was watching footage of Nicklaus' 1986 Masters win and loved the sound he was getting off driver and irons. He sure hit the ball solid that day. And a few other days too.

The 905R is very muted..it has a solid chhhhhhh sound at impact..Its hard to imagine Acushnet making Cobras which break the sound barrier and Titleists which are quiet and pleasant..

I got randomly paired with a guy that bought some Big 5/Costco set. Everything was Cat yellow. The driver kind of looked like "The Hammer". It was the worst sound I've ever heard.

I play an older Cobra and find it to be a lot more muted than most of the newer drivers but I haven't tried any of the newer models that have come out recently. I did hear that the new Speed LD driver for 2008 is supposed to have an "improved" sound so maybe they've listened.

From my experience though the worst sounding drivers have for sure been the Nike drivers and especially the Sumo Squared. I remember the first time I hit it I thought I broke the club it was so loud. As someone already mentioned it definitely sounded like an aluminum softball bat, just terrible.

I'm thinking of getting a Louisville Golf persimmon driver. I hate the way these new drivers sound (although the D2, M Speed, Wilson, and Nike I've tried at the range all gave me about 30 more yards). "pling"!

Dude, I have a set (1-3-5) of Louisville persimmons. I'd even regrip 'em for ya. Make me an offer!

As far as the sound, the first time I heard my driver I thought it was awful. What's really funny is the sound has changed over time. Sounds like a pured shot. Not sure why. But some of the drivers I hear today sound terrible. Guess it doesn't matter if it goes where it's supposed to.

I was golfing with 3 of my friends, so the first one had a Cleveland Hibore, and it wasn't that loud. Then me and my other friend both have Taylormade R7 460's, and the r7 460's have a really obnoxious sound, but the last one had the Cobra 2007 LD, this thing was so loud it sounded like a aluminum bat hitting a rock.

I have a MacTec NVG that I don't use anymore. Part of the reason was the sound, I'm pretty sure it was louder/more obnoxious than any of the drivers we are discussing so far.

You're not kidding. I actually currently play a MacTec tour and it is loud......but I like it

I wonder if any country clubs actually ban drivers that make such a loud noise--you have to imagine members getting annoyed at the sound of a sumo square or a speed ld
