Before her, the youngest woman was 30, knocked 11 years off the record. Inspiring stuff. -31 degrees over Serbia and close call with bad weather near North Korea. 5 months to complete. What did YOU do during your gap year. Uhhhhh...

Five months?

I don't see why that's so remarkable.

It's 32,000 miles.

If you told me five DAYS I'd be really impressed. Even a month would be interesting, as that's a thousand miles a day.

The record seems to be in little over 44 HOURS:

fastest world circumnavigation by scheduled flights

And apparently someone circumnavigated the globe twice in 215 hours on scheduled, commercial flights!

I guess other than her age. It isn't.

I'm sure she would have wanted to do it quicker. She was stuck in Alaska for a month according to the article. Bad weather. And other weather/bureaucracy related delays.

The youngest male, Mason Andrews, did it in 76 days.

And again, others did it in under 76 hours.

She's 19, but it's just flying. If they were talking about planning it for five months, and then doing it in five days, that'd be one thing.

I wonder if that's possible given rules across different countries, if a non-military, civilian craft can get access to landings at a particular time and change them when weather conditions change. I dunno, not an air traffic controller, don't you need clearance for things like that?

But again, others did it in like 44 hours. It took her five months. That's not because of "civilian craft getting access to landings."

A winter storm forced another long stop in far eastern Russia

Who plans a solo flight through Siberia in the winter?

And kind of gutsy (maybe there's a better adjective, but I'll be kind) to consider taking on North Korean airspace.

Glad she's safe.
