In another thread about a re-gripping issue, a side conversation started around using compressed air to install grips. My set is due for new grips this year, and I'd been wanting to experiment with a couple options. Figured I'd give the compressed air approach a try. As that should make it really easy to quickly swap out different brands and models for testing.

First attempt a few weeks ago was a success. Pretty quick learning curve. And was able to get them on and off with standard blow gun attachments. But knowing there are purpose built nozzles/attachments, and having 3D printer, I decided to try my hand at putting together an attachment of my own.

I may tweak it a little after some more use, but I'm pretty happy with how this first iteration turned out. Fits all the grips I have one hand (Lamkin Crossline - Std., Tour Velvet Plus 4 - Std., and Decade MCC Plus 4 - Midsize). Printed it in two parts. One for the portion that goes around the grip. The other is just the small coupler that threads into the blow gun nozzle. CA glued them together. I could "weld" them with a soldering iron as well, but I don't think it's necessary for this application.

If anyone is interested in the STL files for personal use, let me know.

@DoubleAce what is the "OD" and "ID" of your coupler?
I'm thinking about adding an extension to the one I have to keep the
grip straight when it becomes inflated. Also, it would prevent the grip from
"Ballooning" when pressurized.

Just a thought. Nice work on your attachment! :beer:

@Club Rat Thanks!

O.D. is 1.35" and the I.D. is 1.20" for the portion that goes around the grip. So just enough room for typical standard and midsize grips. I could go a little tighter, would only take a couple seconds in CAD. And may do so once I land on a preferred grip. Also would be easy to make it longer as well. Right now it's just an inch and half.

The "nozzle" that inserts into the grip is also tapered. As even golf pride grips vary in the size of that hole from model to model. Taper starts at .145" and reduces down to .125.

    • I know you guys were discussing this like a year ago. But, ironically I just had this discussion with my brother-in-law. We literally just did one of these. I'd always used the "Slow-Cook, Rest, and Sear" Method. But my bother-in-law was convinced the "5-Min/lb, 500 degree" method was the way. So, we gave it a go. I have to say it came out great.  I have a 25 year old, electric oven, GE brand... Not sure if that matters, but it came out great. ... Of course we stressed that nobody was to open the oven.   I don't make these all that often so, I'm not sure if I can fully recommend one method or the other, because without doing a Pepsi Challenge, I'd say both ways come out great. 👍😁👍
