I was thinking about replacing my sandwedge soon, the grooves on it are a lil spent. I just bought a new driver yesterday and Im not sure I want to shell out another 120 for a new vokey. Anyone have any experience with getting clubs re-grooved? Cost, the process, and such?

You can buy a re-grooving tool for 30 to 80 dollars. The one my dad and I bought cost 50 bucks and works absolutely fantastic. It creates a more than noticeable change in spin. Make sure you buy a good tool because bad ones often don't work (e.g. the $15 dollar tool we bought at first).

What product do you recommend? Would I be able to use it on my 8 and 9 iron, too? That would be a

huge plus.

i use the end of a paint can opener--works fantastic because it matches the groove size

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

that might be against the rules- maybe making the grooves illegal. I would buy something in a store that won't sharpen past the USGA limit.

You can re-groove a club for as little as $28. There's this place:

http://continentalgolf.net/shop/inde...d&productId;=83 You can also get it done, here: http://theironfactory.com/price.html The Iron Factory quoted me a two to three week waiting period. Just an FYI.

I think its legal--and if it wasnt-i dont know too many PGA Tournaments that check the grooves of clubs--guys probally widen the grooves a lot more than the limit

Because golf is a game of integrity, and advising people to cheat simply because tournaments don't "check the grooves of clubs" is lame.

But I see you've already been voted back into the Bad Seed group. Probably as it should be. Uninformed comments here, on HGH, Tiger's religion... you just can't help yourself.

why don't you just buy a good second hand wedge. Re grooving and re chroming is an expensive exercise (....a bit of rust gets the ball spinning anyway).

Rust doesn't add spin.

LMAO... voted back into the red... just go ahead and cheat...

I don't think using a non-reg tool would necessarily make the grooves non-conforming, just make sure the tool isn't too large and essentially widening the grooves....

Regrooving and rechroming is a lot cheaper than buying another club. Golfworks rechromes and regrooves for about $25 a club.

Just for clarification... Would it be illegal for me to purchase a groove sharpener, as stated earlier in this thread, for the intended purpose of using it to help with the worn grooves on my scoring clubs? I searched my rules book and the internet, but to no avail. So I am appealing to the wiser audience. thanks in advance.

Yes, regrooving yourself with a tool is legal so long as it is not one that will sharpen them to illegal dimensions. The tool should say if it keeps your clubs legal.

    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
