Just ordered an used Adams 2014 Tight Lies Fairway 5 Wood for a nice cheap price. Very curious to test it out.
Been looking for a fairway wood to replace my 3 hybrid to help give me a bit more distance on par 5's and long par 4's.

@retoid you’re gonna like the vice better. I use them both Bridgestone e12 and vice

Well you were certainly right about this. Didn't notice much difference from when I switched to the e12's from the Kirkland balls. But today when I first tried the Vice Pro's, wow noticeable difference. Longest drives I've had so far and I think I need to club down on iron shots with it. Kept overshooting the green with them. Great feel and sound too.

They are Still in the box. lol

Maxfli softfli is the specific name. I hate hitting a ball that has anything solid or like hitting a rock. In the past (a few seasons ago) I remember using maxfli but they scuffed easily. So I went with a more expensive albeit “soft” ball.
With the maxfli purchase ,off season, I. got over a hundred balls for eighty bucks so I figure what the hell.

Wow ~$0.80 a ball? That's a great deal!

54 and 58 degree SM9 wedges, replacing 4 year old Callaways.

Have chipped with them twice so far and 1 range session.

Carry yardages were right where I expected, nothing crazy there. They did seem to launch MUCH higher than what I'm used to, but it possibly could have been the range balls too since I was at a different range than usual and they weren't the best quality balls.

Chipping has taken some getting used to, significantly more spin and stopping power especially on uphill shots.

Generating quite a bit more spin out of the rough too.

I went through those Vice Pro Plus' too fast lol. Loved them but I lost 6 the other day. 2 over the fence and the rest in bushes/tall grass. Decided to pick up and try out the Sugar balls. If those go just as fast, I'll probably resort to looking for a deal like you just got :D

Just picked up a mint condition Spider X Hydroblast putter.

35", small slant neck.

Been putting with a blade for a while but haven't been a fan of it inside 10 feet.

This Spider X seems much better inside 10 feet so far during my practice session today.

What I like best about that putter is the ability to tap in the small putts from the opposite end. I have the ordinary knock off.  By far the best club in the bag.

    • Day 186 (04 Nov 24) -  More tempo work today (6i into the net)….did notice that the more I “thought” about it, the less solid the strike.  Side bar - thinking it might be time for a new target flag (the hole 1st appeared Thurs and has now grown to look rather “scowled in appearance”):   Finished up with sone bump and runs with the 6i in the backyard…
    • Four shots? And if one of them is good, do you really keep hitting more? Even if you hit all four, since it's basically a four-person scramble… but even better since you can learn directly from previous shots, that's gonna be like 120 full swings. I'd go pretty high in the handicap range against a Tour player (assuming it's a typical 7000 yard course or shorter) given four attempts.
    • Sorry, what has this to do with 'Tour stats'? If the idea is that you have to be a PGA Tour pro level short game to shoot low 70s driving it 160ish, then you may be overestimating the difficulty in doing so playing super short tees as @iacas mentioned.  Obviously I don't know the course/courses your friend is taking about but we have quite a few super seniors (70+) at my home course who do just that from super short tees (5,400 yards). There's only one par 4 over 300 yards. Majority average 260ish. The two par 5s are less than 400 yards. From the short tees the margin of error in keeping the ball in play is super wide. Additionally they don't hit hard enough to hit big hooks and slices.  They don't 'throw darts' but instead run up the ball on the green or around it all day. Not terribly hard.
    • This reminded me of a (fictional) book I read about a golf hustler.  One game he used was to play against a good player.  he'd play his own ball straight up, the other guy was allowed to play the best of 4 attempts, similar to your scenario, but with double the chances.  The other guy got ahead early, but was exhausted after 8 or 10 holes of hitting 4 drives, 4 approaches, etc., on every hole.  Again, this was fiction, but it has a ring of truth to it.  So in your scenario, I'd wonder whether a single player taking two attempts at each and every shot would get pretty fatigued before the end of the round.  With a little self-control, taking a second try only when there was real improvement available, he might do really well.
