I took a day off yesterday to play Links at Firestone Farms with three co-workers.

This golf course is out in Columbiana, Ohio, near Youngstown, Ohio. Though it says, "Links", it is not a links course.

Layout: 5.5/10
Condition: 7/10
Greens: 8.5/10
Bunkers: 4/10
Fairway/Rough: 7/10
Overall: 6.5/10

This course might be a tail of two nines. The front nine is the shorter nine, and a bit more target golf than the back nine. A lot of the holes had tees that were below the landing area of the fairway, so there were a good number of blind tee shots. Luckily, the GPS on the cart had the location of the carts in front of you and a good layout of the hole for target lines. The greens were pretty good. There were two par 5's were you were forced to layup with a 3-wood or less, which then forced you to have a wood into the green or layup. The bunkers were in bad shape, lots of little stones. I was lucky enough to just have my irons bounce off the top of one instead of hitting the stone on the club face. Yea, they were not well maintained. For $42 for 18-holes, I think the course has decent value. I would say, I would be willing to play there again if I was to meet up with people from the area. This happened to be a halfway point between Pittsburgh and Akron, and a co-worker of mine lives over west of Pittsburgh.

You've played there before with us at the outing, right?

I agree with the overall rating. 6 or 6.5 is about right.

No, that was an outing I had to skip because my back flared up the morning or night before.

Oh, okay.

Yeah, it's decent. The walk from 9 to 10 could be shorter, but hey…

I played there several times when I lived in the Pittsburgh area.   I recall it being closer to $60 years ago.   I always enjoyed it though.  Couple of holes were kind of weird, but overall something I would try and get to once per year.

I liked the course well enough, but it's nothing special. The two nines definitely felt different from each other. I'd play the course again if the opportunity comes up.
