We've all got them. Some have spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on them. Some use them all the time and some have them stashed away. But we can't use them when playing.

Training aids. I'm not talking about videos, books, etc. I mean the golf related items that we swing, use for alignment, or adjust our swing plane with.

What do YOU have? Which were a good investment, and which were a waste of time and money?

Besides the obligatory putting mat and chipping mat, I have:

Medicus duel hinged driver...good

Medicus duel hinged 5 iron...good

David Leadbetter Swing Setter...I like the Medicus products better

Home made Weighted shaft Driver...works like the ones you buy only cheaper

Home made Weighted shaft 5 iron...same as driver

Home made Weighted shaft wedge...same. I filled the shafts with lead shot.

Home made laser swing plane indicator I made for about $10...I like this one.

Home made swing path alignment device that sells for $50+ in pro shops and I made from PVC for $2.50...works just like the ones you buy. Foam arm flys off if you come over the top on downswing.

As you can see, if I can make it, I don't buy it.

I have a putting rug/cup that was well worth it, I used it all winter and it defintitely helped my improve my stroke.

Bit the bullet and bought the Inside Approach last week for $25 at Target. I never even hit a ball with it. I set it up made a couple of swings with it and knew right away that I already had an inside-out swing, so that is not the cause of my slice. I gave it to my buddy, hopefully it will help him.

lol... i like that word.

I really do not use it for a swing path trainer as much as I do for a weighted club. But on the same token if you use it wrong you would be strengthing all the wrong muscles.

Spend the money. It is the only thing out there that will take strokes off your game.

It looks like a nifty device, but the only real thing out there that is going to take strokes off of my game is me.

lol... You are kidding right. There are lots of useful tools to help take strokes off your game. Z Factor, weighted club, training program, teaching lessons, etc.

If you keep doing the wrong thing long enough it will take even longer to get it right.

For $300, I'll make a Z Factor myself now that I've seen a picture of it.

I got the Smart path, to correct my swing, I have hopefully had, an outside-inside swing that causes a great slice.

I just got it last week, I will tell you in 2 or 3 weeks if that helped me.

This winter I invested in 15 golf ball sized nerf balls. I spent the winter chipping with them hitting lob shots on my berber carpet in my basement. It made the springtime hardpan on my course easier to hit off of and now my chipping and pitching is way ahead of all other aspects of my game. Best $15 I ever spent during the offseason.

I'm pretty sure you have stock in the Z-Factor

I have been interested since I first got a look at it on Fore-Inventors... To answer the original Q... I have never bought a training aid... but my list of things I want is... -mini-dv video recorder w/ some sort of swing software -Z-Factor (Erik better be right!) -pole barn complete with synthetic putting green, practice bunker, and hitting net. Of course I need a house first and I'm moving into a Townhome, so????

Holy Cow! That's crazy. I own nothing but a nice hitting mat to pitch balls off the driveway into the backyard. At my old house I could hit a full sandwedge to the edge of the woods. My wife didn't like divots in the front yard so I got the mat. That's all.

    • Late morning, short gym session for press.  Four sets of five, 105 lbs.
    • First, you have some great choices in there.  Event Horizon remains a birdie movie for me.  It still finds its way onto the October options as Halloween approaches.  It fits well. I continue to forget that Arrival, when being referenced, is not the Charlie Sheen movie I saw in middle school. Lastly, what rating are you giving HG2?  Was it a par?  Bogey?  I gather from your review it didn't earn a hole in one on a par-4.  (I have yet to decide how I'm prioritizing that on my movie queue, and if I should even bother, so I'm looking forward to reviews here)
    • I loved Arrival. Annihilation is a good one. Event Horizon is also one of my classic sci-fi favorites. And now for something completely different: Happy Gilmore 2. I watched HG1 as an adult, and it was alright, but probably would have been better if I watched it as a kid. HG2 had some good parts, but overall I wasn't a big fan. I knew there would be pros in the movie, but I imagined some cameos, not them being straight up actors through large parts of the movie. They're not actors and it showed. I could've done with a lot less of them and John Daly was maybe the best of the pros. The Maxi part was boring.

    • Did I miss what your handicap was or how long you’ve been playing?  That Garmin chart is pretty useless.  Is the max number one of the numbers used to compute the average?  Without the chart don’t know how far you hit your clubs?  What do you hit from 150, ,160 etc…. Not looking at max and figuring the other numbers will probably have 10 yards of roll built in. It seems your launch and peak height are low.  I’d probably go Driver/5 wood/7 wood/ 5 iron
