New product brings invaluable data and pairs with Callaway® RPT™ Chrome Soft X® Golf Balls to give golfers unparalleled insights into their practiceST. LOUIS, Jan. 25, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Rapsodo, the...

The MLM2PRO™ has two built-in cameras, offering a major upgrade from the original MLM which required the iOS device camera to track ball flight. The inclusion of the cameras opens up the MLM2PRO™ to both Android and iOS platforms. The two cameras serve different purposes. The wide-angle "Shot Vision" camera is used to record a swing video with shot trace on every shot. The 240-fps high speed shutter "Impact Vision" camera captures a series of photographs that are visualized in the MLM2PRO Mobile App as a short video - allowing players to view their impact on every swing. The Rapsodo Swing Vision feature pairs the MLM2PRO™ with a phone or tablet to have multiple angles of each golf swing, allowing golfers to capture down-the-line and face-on swing replay videos so they can get more out of their practice time.

These two says that the camera is what measures the spin? Color me skeptical there. I’m ndefinitely not sure about that, but what’s up with those RPT golf balls? You’re not gonna hit those out on the range. Maybe you use those indoors and the dots are metallic or something?

Update: Every reference just now when I looked at the press releases, etc. say that the first iteration "was a radar device" or some version of that.

Cameras for spin? On a range? In potentially poor lighting conditions? Hmmmmm.

Another update:

I found on another site that apparently the rapsodo folks have confirmed that spin and whatnot only comes when you use the dotted balls they provide. Sounds like it won’t have a ton of use if you want that data, on the range.

Never mind. It also has a radar. But I still guess the camera is going to be used indoors.

I would be interested if I did not already have a Mevo+ for outdoor into a net use.

It would be interesting to see a comparison of the two.

Am I right in assuming that we can replicate the RPT ball at home for indoor simulator use.  It is either going to be multiple metallic dots stuck on, or multiple dots painted on with a marker pen.  Never seen the ball before so not sure which one of these it is.

And that also brings up another question.  If it is painted on dots rather than metallic dots, does the ball need to placed in a specific way each time or not.

RCT, and no… there's more to it than just adding extra bits of metal to your ball. They have a unique pattern and it reflects the radar back in a way that wouldn't be the same with just you drawing on or sticking things to your golf balls.

Since the Mevo+ added support I've been impressed with the quality reads.

It is an RPT ball.  Rapsodo Precision Technology according to the Rapsodo website.  The RCT stands for Radar Capture Technology.  Do they both work on the same principle or is the RPT ball camera based and will it determine spin rate according to viewing the dots/design moving/spinning in the air

Yeah, sorry, I forgot they had their own weird marked up ball. Completely disregard the previous post. RCT is for radar, RPT is for visual stuff (aboutGolf simulators had similarly marked balls for awhile).

Frick, sorry.

The orientation of the ball doesn't matter (RPT), and I'm sure there will be templates or something that come out so you can create your own.

    • My flop shots are 6-7° down (AoA). Does that answer it? 😄  The longer answer is… You have to be able to do both shots.
    • I hope you don't mind me raising this one from the dead. I got shortgamechef's video access thing for a few months in 2024. I watched his yip fix videos (the general gist is similar to the first video above, but with a lot more detail) and it made a lot of sense. I was working on it in my backyard off a mat for a while and my yippy thing was mostly gone. Aside from anything else, the flop shot using that technique is so easy and controllable. But I got onto a golf course for the first time of the year and found myself by the green on a downslope with the ball sitting down a little in the rough and I was, not to put too fine a point on it, f***ed. Shallow is all well and good from a good flat lie and I understand it, but you can't make that your be all and end all. I still don't know if it's a good idea to use steep all the time or just when you need to. I have a hard enough time with one technique, let alone too.  Just got a pitching skillest lesson with Erik and unless I misunderstood things some, he wants me a bit steeper. @iacas - where do you fall on the steep vs shallow argument and how do you vary it according to need?
