We are 7 months away from the 44th Ryder Cup  at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Italy. With all the PGA vs LIv legal issues going on and the Pga of America saying Liv players have a path to qualifying for this amazing event, where do you all see this going? Any Liv players make either team? Who do you think makes the team? Any other Ryder Cup talk is welcome.

“If we get to a point where someone’s qualified from LIV. … we’re going to have to figure it out.”

That says they may not even be eligible, and was published today.

Yes, I said a path to. Depending on the Asian tour and majors. To say that this would be a major distraction and take away from the real team event of the Ryder Cup would be an understatement. Let’s say Brooks wins another PGA or DJ wins the Masters. How do you think the other team members in the locker room would be in this great team event? They should say no way to liv. Don’t care if you win all 4 majors. This is about country and team. Playing partners is huge in this format. Pass on them. Please.

I don't think winning one major would get someone on the team on points. They'd have to win like three.

I guess. I have not really looked into. Was just saying that is what the Pga of American said. Asian tour and Majors to grab points. I really hope neither captain has to deal with this.

I suppose in theory these players can be captain picks.

I'm a little worried about how competitive this iteration of the Ryder Cup will be. I think it's going to be hard for either team to pick someone from the LIV Tour, and I think that affects the Europeans more than the US. The US probably misses out on having DJ, but I think he's replaceable. And his Ryder Cup record is not good, even with the 5-0 he put up at Whistling Straits. The Europeans are more likely to pick someone from LIV, but are you going to pick Sergio after all that's gone on with him? I'm sure it would be nice to fill a slot or two with someone like Poulter, Casey, etc., but it's going to be really hard to do it with Rory being the emotional leader of the team. Garcia had a great partnership with Rahm at Whistling, and that would be a big loss for the Europeans.

With that, if you look at the European qualifying, the bottom 4 or so slots are going to pretty rough. Seamus Power, Bobby MacIntyre, Thomas Detry, Rasmus Hojgaard? Meh. Yannick Paul, who I haven't heard of, is in an automatic qualifying spot right now. The top 4 for Europe are going to need to go all 5 matches, and they're all going to need to perform really well for Europe to have a chance. It can definitely happen, but it likely won't.

Meanwhile, the US is looking at people like Jordan Speith, Tony Finau, Schauffle, Cantlay, to be golfers 9-12. That's a big advantage for the US.

@DeadMan I get what you are saying, however where I see Europe having an advantage is they don’t need to feel obligated to pick players who let’s face it are past their prime. Poulter and Garcia were non factors at Whistling. There is so much tradition that any player picked on either side wants this badly and will perform. Singles I give the advantage to The US. Day 1 and 2 could be a toss up. It is all about complimenting your playing partner. More so i alt shot.

Huh? Poulter was bad, yes, but Sergio was 3-1, and won the second most points for Europe. And I bet Europe would love to have the Rahm-Garcia pairing again. It was basically the only thing that worked for the Europeans last time around.

The 5 Europeans from Whistling Straits that went to LIV are Casey, Poulter, Westwood, Garcia, and Wiesberger. It doesn't seem like many of them will be a big loss, but wouldn't you rather have Poulter than Yannick Paul or Marcel Siem?

I just watched the 2020(21) matches Rahm was the stud. Garcia was just an on looker.

I think Europe will be competitive without the LIV players and it’s a chance for them to bring young players in. They have Rahm, Rory and Fitzpatrick and that’s not a bad start. They also have Hovland, Lowry, Hatton and Fleetwood. Not a bad group.

2 of the top 3 in the world is form Europe so i think we are in a good place. Europe with a home field advantage could break any US team. Looking forward to it though!°

6 out of the top 10 in the world are from the US so I think we are in a good place.

Depth matters for these events.

And the US has far more experience with pairings of people who will be on the team than Europe does.

I don't see this Ryder Cup being all that competitive honestly. My guess is Europe hangs around close one of the first two days, the US wins the other day easily, and the US dominates singles to make the victory lopsided.

Yeah its really US thats been dominating the last years.... 😃 9-5 to Europe over last year.
my guess is that US team will complaint about the course and then Europe wins. Close - but Europe wins with home course advantage.

What does that even mean?

My overall point is that a lot of the guys that made up those European teams who beat the US in 2018, 2014, 2012, etc are gone to LIV or no longer in form.

The US team that won by 10 in the last Ryder Cup certainly didn't get any worse, if anything the team they will roll out this year will be better. I don't think the same can be said about the European team.

The US team losses. Brooks, DJ and Bryson. Dj was a standout in 21 at Whistling. I think the US will be just fine in Italy.

While gaining Max Homa, Sam Burns, Cameron Young, Zalatoris (possibly), etc.

Some of the "bottom" guys for the US are potentially going to be multiple time major winners, guys with multiple Ryder and President Cups under their belt going up against guys like Seamus Power, Bobby MacIntyre, Thomas Detry, Rasmus Hojgaard. Yeah I like the US chances there regardless of how the course is set up.

Does BK t2 at Masters and a Win at the PGA put him in an automatic selection? @iacas states in an earlier post 3 majors may get you in. Follow up question would be if BK is an auto selection does that make Z Johnson re/ evaluate using a pick on say a DJ ?

I don't think DJ is playing great golf right now. I didn't think winning one major would be enough to get you on the team (top six in points), but it may have, as I forgot the majors pay out quite a bit more.

Is this up-to-date? It says updated today, but it has Brooks as 22nd?!?!

That said, I think BK will be on the Ryder Cup team.

    • Day 237 (26 Dec 24) - played 18 with niece and her husband at one of the local courses.  We were first out - so we pretty had our own pace of play.  First few holes were a struggle, but the groove started by hole 5.  The green side wedge game kicked in - had several kick in up and down pars.  Best of the day - had my first ever sandie birdie on #9. It’s a neat par three with a pot hole bunker - found it off the tee.  Had about a 22yd shot from the bunker to the flag.  Hit an easy shot out with the 54 that hit softly and gently rolled center cup.  Had several other close wedge shots into others that were close but no hole out.  Was a great day with the green side wedge game - and seeing solid fruit from the drills.
