Surely there's someone in the Baltimore or DC area that's played here. I've played some courses in VA, NC, and SC (Myrtle Beach area) but never in MD. All advice welcome.

i'm in maryland and had never heard of Chartwell...

since it's a private club I'm surprised you assume someone on here surely must have played it...

I grew up in Pasadena which is only about 15minutes away, isn't Chartwell in Severna Park? if so I have heard very nice things about it, (have never played it as it's Private)

Erova:

I'm driving 6 hrs plus to play there - not local to me at all, did not know that it was private. Also: as to why I'd assume someone here had played there? This is a worldwide site - figured the odds were good.

Right on. If you are sticking around in this area and and interested in playing more golf (around Chartwell or otherwise) I can throw some public-course suggestions your way...the Annapolis area has some decent tracks...

enjoy the trip

have you ever played Renditions? down in South River? some Co-Workers are planning a group outing down there this summer. I heard it's holes that resemble famous holes from all around the world.....

yep, played renditions a few years ago.

it's not too bad, but the replica holes are kind of tough to distinguish since they can really only duplicate the layout, not the land, weather, greens, or other maintenance that make the originals so special.

for instance, the open rota holes really look like they could be in the middle of anytown USA except there are pot bunkers instead of usual parkland bunkers. obviously they can't duplicate the sandy soil, wind, or wet air whipping around, so you're really left with a parkland par four with the principal's nose bunker in the fairway.

also, even if a par 3 is modeled after a winged foot par 3, it's still really only going to look like a parkland par 3 to most of their constituents.

i just played CB Macdonald's Old White Course at the Greenbrier and he had his usual inspired holes such as the Redan, Eden, Cape, etc., and that was a bit more enjoyable.

thanks for the head-ups.....the price was a bit steep for my liking....and add to that it's about 1hr 45minutes from me 1 way I probably won't make the trip down there with the Co-Workers.....

I moved from the area about 5 years ago but when I lived back there and I always liked Little Bennett, Wiskey Creek (and Els course), and the PB Dye course. Not sure if these are still good tracks. In Baltimore there is Mt. Pleasant which is a cheap course but a great track. I played Greystone up in White Hall which was also a good (and tough) track. Queenstown and Hog's Neck are also good courses and on the way to the beaches (a little past Annapolis I think).

yeah I played Mt.Pleasent once (years ago and don't care to remember my score. ) and Queenstown and Hog's Neck are both over the Bay Bridge on the eastern Shore......(have heard they are sweet tracks, never played either of them)

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
