And I still use the clubs that I got in high school... I have some Cougar something driver and my irons are from a beginer set baught at Dicks... Same with my putter...

Now, I am not rich nor do I have hundreds to throw into clubs so I was wondering if there really is even a major differance in my clubs vs new ones...

If so, how should I even go about buying new ones? I was thinking maybe getting a new driver first and then a new putter... My irons have never done me wrong and I think I am a little attached to them.

Opinions?

It took me over 10yrs. before I replaced my Tommy Armour 845's with the Taylormade OS2's..Like you,I was attached with my older ones, but the golf technology now really helps golfers like us alot...Go,to your local Pro shop and try a few irons..I tried the R7 TP and the Burner TP for some reason it was the RAC OS2's that I was able to hit...I hope my 2cents helps yopu a bit...

"Today's iron set doesn't come close to resembling yesterdays, tomorrow's will be just as different…….innovative thinking will mark the future" E. Michael Stanley

This quote says a lot of things to me. Today's latest and greatest game improvement irons and drivers are leaps and bounds above the clubs you currently have in your bag. Go to your local pro shop and demo a few…..you will be amazed at what technology can do for your game. Hit as many as you can one day, go back and hit some more, third time is a charm.

get a used set from a place like ebay or globalgolf.com. the technology has changed a lot in the past 15 years, but not as much this decade. A set of callaway x-14s would be cheap and still are up to date.

however, it is not the club so much as it is the golfer. you can improve this summer with a cheaper set, and then you will have a better idea of what you are looking for in your next set of clubs for xmas next year.

If I were you, I would buy a high quality driver used. The difference between a Cougarwhatever and a top of the line driver is probably pretty significant, much moreso than the difference a beginner will feel between a cheap 8I and a high quality 8I.

I bought a used Nike Sasquatch Driver with a sick shaft in it, almost mint condition, for $100 from globalgolf.com. The club looked like it had been used in a handful of rounds, that is it. Clubs are like cars, they really depreciate once they leave the lot.

My driver is a Callaway Square Head. They go for $400+ new, I bought mine for $200 in mint condition from ebay, still had the stickers on it. No ball marks on the face, no signs of a tee being hit on the bottom, looked brand new to me.

Here is the site for globalgolf:

Here is a Ping G5, Reg Flex for $120'ish:

Here is a Nike Sumo for $115'ish:

Here is a Cleveland for $85:

You can also get a pretty good putter used on that site too. An Odyssey or something for $20'ish.

And the Cleveland Wedges for $30'ish are a good deal too. Wedges can be real beat up, that's part of their charm.

    • Attempting to lift. Any better?
    • Day 82: mirror work again tonight. Working on the same shoulder down and roll and twist stuff. Going on vacation tomorrow and putting the clubs down, so new streak starts in about 10 days!
    • Day 44, June 17.  Today was some preliminary stretching, exploring what I'll want to set up as a regular routine (both while on vacation without clubs and when I'm back) (aside: this is part of an upcoming goal to stretch daily in a meaningful way, but I don't plan to count it as practice on days that I can meaningfully practice with a club)
    • Having a rough week. Went to the Dr. because I was really weak and could hardly swing my driver.  I take Propranolol 20 mg tablets twice a day. Seems like the Propranolol was driving my pulse down (low 50's).  So we cut the dosage in half and I started taking my blood pressure. It was a little high but pulse came up.   Then yesterday I raised it to 15 mg tab by taking it 3 times a day. Blood pressure 127 / 77 Pulse 75.  Heading out tomorrow morning for 18 holes.    I have my driver set at 10.5* but seem to have my swing speed to low and I can't get the lift on the ball I need.  I have not played this week in hopes I will have the strength to raise my swing speed. I may have to raise my loft to 12* . (I will take my driver wrench) tomorrow. (This Parkinson's is a pain in the butt.)  Will give you a report when I get back.    Retired Old Man, Terry
    • You still got to lift your arms. You basically just roll your wrist over in the 1st half of the backswing.
