Do Not Lead With the Trail Elbow (AMG)

Pretty good video on how the trail elbow never really gets in front of the body until post impact. 

The only nip pick is that they say the trail elbow doesn’t get in front of the trail hip. I am glad they put in their own reference for their definition, that shaded box. If you define the position of the points based on a XYZ reference. I think it was the 2nd example where the trail elbow went ahead of the trail hip when considering actual coordinates, got close to the target. It still doesn’t get in front of the body. The box they defined. Anyways, good evidence to show the hands have to get down and not out. The elbow gets more attached to the right side than trying to pull it around the body.

Yeah, they've been beating this drum for awhile now. I appreciate it. I've called it "throwing" for a long time. Today I thought of another feel that helped a player from the top.

You hit the ball with your hands on the trail side of your body (both your pelvis/hips and your chest).

Interesting for sure. I have actually had my instructor try to get me to get the elbow in front as well. That actually spiraled me into the slump I am currently working out of.

I would disagree with him saying that lowering the arm might be the simplest and easiest move in golf 😄. I am having SOO much trouble making that move instead of my hands immediately moving toward the ball from the top. It's like my mind has 0 patience at the top and tells me to GO GO GO.

Especially since the lead arm pins more against the chest in the early downswing before it releases down, in a lot of these high level swings. 

But there is a difference between this trail elbow positioning:

I wish they went into describing how exactly these two positions are different and why teachers use feels like "trail elbow more in front or under."

Feel ≠ Real. 😁

For someone like me who has a lot of twist and little arm turn down. The feel is absurdly obnoxious. I hate it, but it works. I am sure for those who get a lot of hands down behind them, feeling the elbow a bit more in front of them makes sure they do not get stuck. Maybe better golfers tend to have that motion naturally, I may be able to see how that feel became something.

Agreed. For me, the feel was introduced to get the arms moving down from the top. It wasn't necessarily a "get it in front of the hip" explanation as the correct position but more for an exaggerated feel to get rid of the earlier issue.
