I've never cleaned a pair of shoes in my life. I wear sneakers on a daily basis and I don't really care how they look. My work shoes are dark and rarely even look dirty, so those aren't a worry.

But I have a pair of white golf shoes that are really starting to look dirty after 4 months. How do I go about cleaning them? Someone told me in person to use a foaming cleaner (Lysol? Scrubbing Bubbles?) but... can that be right? If not, how do I go about cleaning golf shoes?

Are they leather? I would get some good leather cleaner before I used general purpous cleaners on them. Someplace like a Famous Footwear or Wilson's leather (or whatever you have where you are) should carry it. I use leather cleaner and conditioner on my jackets and it works well.

I usually just run really hot water in the sink and go at them with plain water and an old toothbrush. I would be a little hesitant to use harsh cleaners on them for fear of it reducing the waterproof capability of the shoe and/or damaging the leather.
