Hey guys....I have a MAJOR problem blading my short irons from the fairway. I hit 3 PWs and 2 SWs today from the fairway and bladed all of them over the green. I dont think I was swing too hard, which confused. I was able to make much better contact with my longer irons, which has me very confused.

Anyone have an reasons or experiences with this?
Thanks

Yes. Make sure you keep your spine and upper body relatively level throughout the swing, which will in turn keep you head down.

Yeah, keep your head down and quit trying to lift the ball with your arms and shoulders. Swing through, those clubs have plenty of loft to get the ball in the air on a normal swing.

Try moving the ball just back of center in your stance, keep left arm straight, and your right leg solid.... should firm up your contact.

Just keep your head down.

No don't do that!

That is one of the most overused and misleading myths spread in the game (that you should keep your head down ). If you're blading your short irons I recommend you double check your posture and balance at address. Many people that blade shots drastically move out of the posture they established at setup. Look at tour players and you will see that most of them keep their height pretty consistant from the time they address the ball to the time they make impact. Take for example Ernie Els in the videos below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or2jsVkJ2Eg http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...QrAPUy6y9AQ=en

Do you have a good understanding of the length of those clubs at certain swings? I had this problem where I'd have a 18 yard shot to make and didn't know where in my swing 20 yards was so I'd always try to not hit too hard and would look up to see if I guessed right. Once you figure your distance for your 3,6,9 o'clock swings with those clubs you will be more comfortable making a true swing. If this isn't your issue just disregard

make sure your alignment and ball position are correct..ball position should be in the middle of the stance..too far back and this encourages the wrong action. I never hit my short irons at more than 70%-they are for control. Also, weight should be distributed 65-35 on the front foot but at the same time keep your head behind the ball for the correct spine angle. Keep your head as still as possible!

I agree with avid golfer, trying to keep your head down is very misunderstood advice. Because your head does move in the swing, but from side to side. It has to or you cant rotate properly. Unless your gumby, keeping your head fixed on the ball will restrict your turn back and tense your shoulders and arms. As in my case when i did that, you then whip the club over the top of the ball. I would focus more on keeping your chin level rather than down, if this is the issue you think you're having.

The drawback of trying to keep level, when I was focusing on it, was that the turn back inevitbablly turned into a lateral sway off of the ball, which lead to more issues. So watch out for that as well.

    • Day 35 (26 Feb 25) - Day of easy work (hanging around the house as son had shoulder surgery and I needed to help keep an eye on him).  Worked on low spinner 50deg wedges - keeping the ball low flighted and checking quick.  Went with the 8i after to do low flighted runners.  Great visit on two ways to get the same/similar results.  May be able to get away tomorrow for a short 9hole round (as long as the son's recovery cooperates).....
    • Day 1: 2/26/2025: So, I'm starting over on this again.  My son brought home the mother of all flu bugs from school. It raged though our house and knocked me on my butt for about 3 days.  Now, that I think I'm clear of the death plague my son gave me. I was able to rise early this morning and get some nice mirror work in. I felt stiff like a board for the first few swings, but loosened up and was able to get at least 20 minutes of first robotic slow swings and then gradually more fluid swings.  My focus was on the timing and fluidity of my priority pieces.
    • I use a MagSafe connector on my tripod. Occasionally I use those clips.
    • Working on some swing videos. What are you guys having the best luck with as far as devices used to record the swing?  I have a tripod with a magnet that I stick my phone on but it is somewhat of a pain because I have to remove the cover on my phone and when I pull it off the magnet the tripod head changes and moves position. I was thinking something more like an ipad maybe. On a different style tripod and maybe even set it up to mirror to a tv.
