you read correct well done. case you dont know. handicaps go down quick with low scores, yet are not affected much by the odd high score.

Handicap of 8.4?

How rude!

A block-or-hook is coming from the inside with a square (relative to swing path) or closed (relative to same) clubface. There are a lot of faults. I haven't personally deal with the hooks in a long time, but two common ones are:

1) sliding the hips forward rather than rotating them 2) "getting stuck" - over-rotating and leaving the arms behind (out of sync) How's your alignment? I've seen a few players who have a closed stance and get into trouble like this. Plus, it can prevent hip rotation. Also, is your swing fairly flat? The more upright it is the more unlikely block-or-hooks will be. I'd do one of three things: 1) go over the fundamentals, starting with grip, posture, alignment, stance, etc. 2) hit balls with a half swing, slowly building up speed until you pinpoint the feeling that causes the fault 3) go to the range with a 5-iron and hit every kind of shot possible, but mostly slices and cuts. try to work the opposite shot a lot and develop a real feel for the clubhead. working slices and cuts will help you define the "other side" of your problem, and from there you can work towards a middle ground between your current shot pattern and the slices.

Usually when I have a day where I hit them really badly, and I can't fix it I will usually take a break for a day or two, and then hit the range after that. Try doing what iacas said and hit half shots until you work it up to a full swing. Other than that don't worry because everyone has bad days, and your usual swing will come back to you soon.

When I start having problems with pushing the ball or hooking I go to position 1, which is just less than a half swing and try and get my feel back. If you work your way up and align correctly, you should have this fixed in one outing to the range.

So, if you are a good player (based on your handicap) and you just played miserably today, there are some non-golf causes. It would be rare for something in your form to cause you hook all your long irons, short irons, woods, putts.. :)

You could have either not stretched out enough before playing, causing your muscles to uniformly refuse to perform, or you could have been dehydrated on the course, which would have the same effect. Or, maybe you didn't get enough sleep last night...

My "rude" comment before relates to the fact that these are fundamental golfing errors which afflict us all at times. Usually each round.

My point being that if a single figure handicapper does not know what causes them there might be some other "issues" worth considering. I have never heard of a single digit player not knowing what causes these problems. Curing them is another.
