I need some advice re: purchase of push golf cart.
Course I am switching to next year is more diffficult to walk.
No real steep hills... but no flat land either.
the Bag Boy 525 looks interesting for under $100
Other choice is Club Glove Kaddy stroller. $110
Which would be smallest folded up???
Needs to go in the trunk of a Pontaic Vibe, along with my clubs!
The Kaddy seems shorter and more upright...
will this make it easier or harder to push up hills???
Are the treadless tires really better or just advertising hype????
Thanks, Phil T

Are Sun Mountains better than BagBoy? why?

Sun Mountain used to have a wide advantage over BagBoy in terms of style and functionality, but I would say the gap has narrowed considerably. At this point, I do not percieve there to be any huge difference between the two brands of carts.

Alright I'm seriously looking into this also but why the HUGE difference in price? For example:

BagBoy SC 525 is around $99 but the SunMountain is around $180..realistically is there a big difference between this too..besides looks..which the SM does look better..am I truly paying for better overall quality?

OK - to put a more fine point on things.

The SC525 is a step-up from an opening price point push cart. You can go as low as $39-50 for a basic cart up to $2000K for the motorized versions.

Think of it in terms of buying a car. When you buy a Corrolla - you get a good, solid and dependible car. In short, basic transportation. When you step up to the Camry, you get the same reliability, with some more creature comforts. It's the same with these carts. Everything $99 and up is decent quality. Below $99 - the quality is fine, but these carts will likely wear out faster than the $99 carts and higher.

So, what are the main differences between the $100 cart and the $180 cart?

1.) Folding/Size/Ease- the more expensive carts are more integrated and fold smaller than the basic carts. Both BagBoy (EZ Fold LX) and Sun Mountain (Speed Cart V1). To break down fully - the SC525 you need to remove the front wheel.

2.) Adjustability/Comfort - the nicer Bag Boy and Sun Mountain Carts have more adjustment points which can make pushing the cart for 18 holes more/less comfortable. The nicer models have hand brakes. The cheaper versions have foot activated brakes.

3.) Bag Attatchment - the nicer carts have more innovative/adjustable mechanisms to hold your bag.

4.) Accessories - Umbrella Holders, More Deluxe Scorecard, Valuables storage on the higher end models. There are generally no add-ons for the less expensive carts.

5.) Style - the $99 carts look like $99 carts. The $180 carts are more slick looking --the padding and paint jobs are nicer with more detail. There are little styling details on the wheels.

What's the recommendation? If you walk a lot or really like to walk - buy the nicer cart. I think the extra comfort and small details will be worth the money. If you would use this ocassionally, save your dough and by the $100 cart.

    • Just curious about people's thoughts on approach shots.  Now, I'm talking about a clear view of the green, not behind a bunker or other obstruction where you have to get the ball really high, and drop like a cat. When out 125,100, 75, 50 yards and less, do you prefer: using a single club like 9i or PW, and feeling the distance to get on the green in your swing using different clubs (9i, PW, GW, etc.) with the same swing part of me thinks that if I can get really comfortable with my favorite club, I can adapt my swing to get it on the green from those distances, especially a light pitch with a 9i from 50 yards, as opposed of hitting a really good full swing with a SW.
    • I've had fun every time I've gotten together with any of the SandTrap folks, I'm definitely interested in doing it again if its within reasonable driving distance.
    • I listened to Dr. Norton's interview/podcast last year on IIRC, Huberman. Worth listening and yes, demonizing HFCS or sugars in general as independent agents of obesity is at best misinformed. But from a dependent risk perspective the easiest thing for me to remember as a good reason to control sugar intake is that those who tend to have high sugar intake also tend to have high caloric intake.  Outside of genetic factors and type of calories to an extent, in general, caloric surplus continues to be a singularly consistent factor in determining how overweight you are going to. I don't care if you fast for 16-18 hours. or any other time-managed eating. You can only eat so much before you start storing more than you will ever use.
