My callaway rep stopped by to drop of my new clubs today. I'm so excited to hit them. Stupid ankle of mine...

Alright, so they're not really mine. DAMNIT! Only 2000 sets are going to be made. I could probably get my hands on a set, but I'd still paying at least $1100 and I'm sponsored by Callaway... Phil and Annika are using them, I'd imagine Ernie too.

Isn't it gorgeous!

ooooo, im jealous. those are sick! i wonder how they compare to the x-forged. i noticed in the players, phil had the x-muscle for the short-mid irons, but for the longer irons(3,4, maybe 5) he had x-forged. i wonder why?

If I had to guess, I'd say because the heads on the XForged are a tad bigger, maybe equaling a little more forgiving, easier to look down at for Phil? Just a guess though...

That is awesome to here your sponsored by Callaway, if its not condfidential, what kind of stuff and what kind of deals do you get? As as part of being sponsored by them, what do you have to contribute?

Nah, I doubt I'll plunk down the money for a set. If I did I would keep them as a collectors item, and that's a bit out of my budget for that hobby of mine.

Working in a golf shop doesn't pay anything, but the perks are great and many. One being, being put "on staff". I represent Callaway at my club and try sell their equipment to my membership. My head pro is the official staff guy. But my Callaway rep is a member at my club, and we've become pretty good friends. He was nice enough to extend an "assistants staff" contract to me. I signed a one year contract to play only their clubs. In return I get $1000 worth of equipment. Basically I'm responsible for helping my rep make his sales numbers. It also helps that I'm active (or was active) in tournament play. Companies like seeing their stuff represented on tours.

Ben,

These are really sweet. I saw them on TGW and believe they were about $1600.

Ben, out of curiosity, why do you have to pay for them? Should you not be covered by both your discount and the fact that your on staff?

Ben,

Because of the limited edition-ness I suppose. I think my sales rep said he'd have to pay for a set if he wanted them too.

    • My home course, a semi-private, has a sign in the pro shop area saying that athletic workout attire is not permitted on the actual golf course. Also, collared shirts are required. But, I was unable to find similar athletic-attire language in the course web site. As far as enforcement: I would be hard pressed to tell difference between golf rain gear and lined workout pants and a warm-up top. Personally, use my wind shirt both for golf and for cold gyms.
    • Season 1: Rangefinder / Season 2: Add GPS In early going, rangefinder will help you gauge distances on your shots inside 100 yards, especially your partial wedges. This will help you get up-and-down if you miss the green. Also, GPS can be problematic if you play a cramped course where the holes are packed together tightly (like, they needed 15 more acres to make things work). On such a course if your shot lands on the edge of the No. 13 fairway, GPS may accidentally give you distance to adjacent No. 10 green. A problem in the St. Louis area with a couple of courses built on 100 acres or less. One such course, originally a small 9-hole track, was expanded it to 18 holes without adding any extra acreage. On such bad reads, it's easy to come up 30 yards short or long on your approach.
    • Sounds like the Newport Cup, and my trip to Scotland with @jsgolfer.  Its always good to make new golf friends!
