nice swing for your age, keep it up.

looks like your coming over the top. do you tend to slice or fade the ball? work on bringing the club down on the same line you took it up.

Hi Andrew,

I'm glad you're enjoying golf.

You are coming over the top and releasing the club early. Go find a video of Sergio Garcia and you'll see a big difference between your swing and his swing.

Have fun!

13 years old.......AWESOME.....that's what I say!!!

Club sounds great through impact...sounds like that's when your clubhead speed is peaking...nice.

I'd encourage you to a complete follow through....come on through fully with it.

It looks very smooth.

I commend you for getting into the game and taking the time to work up a great swing. I can't even fathom the low scores you'll be shooting in the future!!!

I'm so very grateful that my eight year old son is getting interested in the game, too. I'm gonna show him your swing video.

Keep at it.

I would say your left hand grip is a bit too strong.
I think that is causing your take-a-way to be too much to the inside, which is making you redirect at the top when you start your down swing and this is going to lead to the over the top. Work on taking the club straighter back and widening our swing. If you are going to keep that strong left hand I would say watch Zach's swing, he has a strong left hand and he squares up nicely with his body and not so much with his arms and hands.

I know you're young and flexible like Gumbi but I would also try and keep your lower body a little more quiet. Less moving parts will make it easier to repeat.

yeah, i do tend to do that sometimes.

I have been shanking it a little lately though. In a school match (we play 7 holes for matches,to save time i guess) i shot a 7 over 35 but i am sure i couldve done better had i not shanked it a couple times.

You're definetely doing some good things; nice short compact swing. My advice would be to try to quiet your lower body on the take away (watch that left hip) and slow your down your downswing. Don't be in a rush to hit the ball. I struggle with this too.

Watch some swing vision videos of Freddie Couples and Ernie Els. They crush the ball with effortless swings.

Very nice for someone your age. I'll agree with what everyone else says, your coming over the top. My way for you to fix this is start your swing with your lower body, not with your hands. When you get to the top of the swing, fire your hips open facing the target and the hands will follow. Your on your way buddy keep it up!!

Good stance. On your backswing, you have a nice shoulder turn, but you turned your hips 90 degrees along with it creating no power. Have your belt buckle look at the toes of your right foot in your backswing.

On the downswing, you throw the club. Instead, do absolutely nothing with your arms, let gravity let the club fall and push your right knee towards the ball and have your hips turn. You will see that the club will fall right into position and that your arms will do nothing. Simple right

Finally, it looks like you slow down your follow through. Don't. It should feel like the follow through is the fastest part of your swing to you, which is weird, but makes sense. You look like you're trying to literally make your follow through happen. It should come natural and your arms should just swing around your body.

Best of luck, the above things will not come easy and will take work, but if you keep up the good work you'll be the number one golfer in your high school, which will make the girls swoon over you hah.

One thing I immeditalety noticed was how much your head is moving... try to keep it as still as possible.... You are starting your down swing from over the top, try to lead with your lower body, and drop your hands....

Other than that, your swing looks pretty good for being your age... A way that helps me come more from the inside is keeping my right elbow almost attached to my body

well, don't keep it completely still. that is a common misconception. its not so much keeping it still, but rather keeping it from bobbing, dipping, or swaying too much, but a little movement is fine as long it doesn't affect your spine angle, shoulder turn, or anything like that...

Overall it looks like a good swing. The things I see are as follows:

http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/5...ewswingxf2.jpg As setup it looks like you probably play the ball too far back in your stance. Your right hip looks like it may be set high and too far back over your right foot (which can promote your upper body to start the downswing while your lower body stalls). If you look at pros you'll generally see the ball in line with their front ear for irons (instead of the back ear). That makes it easy for them to wind up behind the ball in the backswing, and be able to unleash through it in the downswing. http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/254...ballposdg0.jpg http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/3...manfacepd3.jpg As you take the club back it appears your upper left arm may be separating from your upper left chest (causing the club to swing low and behind you). (A down the line view would provide conformation on this occurance). Starting the downswing the lower body appears to stall (likely as a result of the hip position at setup) while the right shoulders pull forward and down (likely causing the club to take on a steep path downward, and the back wrist to loose its hinge). (Again a down the line view would confirm this). In summary the three things I'd recommend is to move the ball forward (under your front ear) at setup, bump your hips toward the target (so the right hip is inside the right foot) at setup, and keep the upper left arm close to the upper left chest as you start the swing (tucking your shirt, a glove, a towel, or a headcover under your armpit should give you the feedback that it is staying close). Keep up the good work and we might see you on the tour in ten years.

It looks like you are a little steep which is causing the over the top action. If your swing is too steep (I would have to see a different angle)... this could explain why your follow through seems forced. A flatter swing would promote an easier more natural follow through.

    • On my trip at Bandon. I have a couple of best shots come to mind. I had kind of a stupidly good short game shot out of some nasty stuff. I didn't really make any bombs putting.  I could say any drive I hit straight that was hitting directly into the wind, lol. That was nasty. I literally hit a ball like 150 yards right. I am going with my drive on hole 18 at Old MacDonald. 469 yard par 4, down wind. The narrowest fairway on the course, and you have to navigate two sets of bunkers. I stripe one down the middle, catch the slope and have to roll out to about 95 yards to the pin. So yea, that 370-ish drive in the fairway on a 469 par 4 wins the shot of the week.
    • Day 2: mirror work while watching some TV. Checking on some backswing stuff primarily - making sure I’m still steep enough in the backswing.
    • Day 88 (28 Jul 25) - Short session this afternoon after a full day of yard work at the house.  Worked on setup and tempo thru the shot with the 52° wedge in the backyard.  Hit about 20 balls total - just staying focused on the process.
    • Day 10: More putting with the metronome. Short putts feel really slow and long putts feel really fast. Getting more comfortable every day.
    • Day 301 - 2025-07-28 Watched a lot of golf today at Fox Chapel, but then came home and did some mirror work. Re-dedicated. Which is saying something, as I've been playing okay. But relying on my athleticism to just do "okay."
