After reading the article about judging golfers by whats in there bag I decided to start a thread about this. I am not sure if this has been done before on here or not but I figured what the heck? So just list what you have in your bag and see what others say or might think. How long you have been golfing? Handicap? How often you golf? Power or Finesse? Pure golfer or Tech golfer? Whatever it might be. Then you can come back check out what others are saying then see how close or far from the truth everyone is. Hopefully feeling dont get hurt I am just curious to see if "what is in your bag" can be a true judge of the golfer. So I will go first

See my sig for whats in my bag. One difference is that I actually have a 52* Cleveland CG10 wedge.I had a 53* Nike Forged bent to a 52* but I feel more comfortable with the Cleveland

All clubs have had 1 1/2in. added to length

My drivers shaft is a 66g V2

I've been playing less than two years. My HC is an 11.4. I practice or play four to five times a week. Coming from a baseball background, the equipment for me is all about feel and weight, heavier weight being optimal. I just like being able to feel the clubhead and not having the feeling that I'm losing the club. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

See my Sig:

I used to be all about distance with it, but now slowing down my swing to in the 90's or more helped me get accuracy. I play with a regular shaft to keep me from swinging too hard.

I play old irons, but still feel that new equipment does improve the game.

My bag is in my signature. It would say that I am a consistent ball striker, but you all haven't seen me play the last couple weeks. Also, it might help to add that i just got the entire set since last fall. And the driver just a week ago. Upgraded the iron from Callaway X12's in search for feel and workability.

I use different bags for different situations, ie: If going out to a par 3 to practice some new wedge techniques I'll bring one of those real thin shag bags and look like a total beginner, that way I don't feel odd about chunking that new wedge on a knock down shot, I feel free to experiment and not try and live up to expectations that a quality bag suggests.

Oddly enough at private courses players tend to not care as much about their bag as their status is already assured just by being able to afford the dues, so it's best not to try and bring that new TaylorMade red and yellow cart bag, save that for the splashy resorts. I've also noticed that the better players often have very plain bags and the more challenged players have the most expensive bags.

My old bag said I was a cheap golfer from another era.

My current bag is an up to date full featured affair that remains light and compact....unobtrusive.

My clubs are a the remains of some extensive trial and error over the years. My irons / wedges are my mainstays. Putters and drivers have a way of being sold off to the highest bidders and being replaced with "friendlier" models.

Folks wrongly assume after seeing my current driver that I must be a player. All such illusions are lost upon them seeing my first swing with it. I'm in serious need of a more forgiving 460cc head and modern shaft.

The guys that amuse me are the "big bag guys" who actually have no game....but their name is stenciled into their bags. They show up looking and dressed like pros but play like chumps. Form over function.....looks over score, etc. They reall make me laugh.

Woods - well the driver says I want forgiveness and big distance, 3 wood is all about forgiveness (Titanium, big head, standard stiff shaft). My rescue falls between the 3 iron and 3 wood so I guess it shows i've all distances covered. I've been called a good long iron player and this can be seen by the presence of the 3 and 4 iron in the bag (i notice more and more people leaving them out).

The irons themselves - I'd call them very underrated. Some peope have thought they're standard cavity back chunky forgiving Pings but that's not true at all. They look very similar to Titleist 755's at address, just slightly smaller and thinner at the top line (also AP2's). I prefer the dull finish too. I've been told that the shafts don't suit me (standard stiff stock shaft - they were expensive enough!)- something I'll look into when I start generating some cashflow after college (2 weeks time!).

Wedges - 54 Ping and 58 spin milled - show's i've my distances covered. Not obsessed with flop shots/floating it in high. The 58 doesn't come out of the bag much either.

Putter - well this is a true blade putter, all about feel. I rarely see other people using one of these - and other people say the same. The Scotty Cameron equivilant is 3 times as expensive and some models require constant oiling. I've had Scottys but settled on this - holing puts is the name of the game.

Bag itself - college bag. People ask if you play(ed) for the team etc. - scares some people when they think they're playing a college superstar (not in my case - though I do like fooling people )

Woods: Well my driver shows that I'm about forgiveness because this driver is focused on forgiveness (until they see my huge fade that I play because it is super consistent). 3 wood: I'm faithful to what works.

Hybrid: Fills the distance gap so shows I'm focused on distances.

Irons: Show that I like to have the ability to work the ball a little bit, but I'm mostly focused on forgiveness until I improve my swing to make it worthwhile to buy players irons.

Wedges: Show that I like versitility in my wedges because I only use two and need to use them for all kinds of shots.

Putter: Old blade putter shows that I have a focus on feel, not what is hot and new.

Ball: Could say that I am a Tiger wannabe but this ball just feels wonderful to me on chips and putts.

Bag: Looks really cool and shows that I'm awesome.

hmmm, well most of what I see says "made in China". so I guess that about sums it up. Of course there is the "assembled in USA" thing.
Perhaps with a little Internet-Geography, a person could then boast about where in China his stuff came from

There's a lot of that going around. I was in China last year...I should have had a look for the club factories...dangit.

My bag says I got tired of how small most bags are. So, I bought a giant PING bag. I can get the club back in without tearing the grips on the clubs in the bag.

"How do (sic) that grab you?"

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
