Hi all,

Recently I have been having problems with my 3 wood. I just can't seem to find any consistency either off the deck or of the tee. Sometimes I will hit a really nice, high draw, or powerful fade, and then I'll go and top it or hit slice after slice. I've noticed that I hit it well on the first or second hole, and then it slowly gets worse until I struggle to use it at all.

Many people say ditch the driver in favour of a 3 wood off the tee, however I am looking at getting a driver and find it much more consistant.

Could it be the size of the club head coupled with my fairly inconsistent swing causing me problems?

I have always had problems with shots going out to the right, commonly a push with my short irons developing into a slice with longer irons and woods. What could cause this? Any drills to help fix it, as I think it could be to do with a poor release?

Cheers,
James

If its consistent with long irons and woods sounds like your over swinging and
trying to force the ball, just have faith that your normal 9 or 8 iron swing will be perfect with your long clubs.Let the club do the work.Try it at the range.

I find I play my 3W too far forward in my stance, both off the tee and especially off the deck. How's that going?

Otherwise, when I decide I need my 3W again, I can "fix" it on the range by teeing it up until I hit it comfortably, then gradually lowering the tee until I can hit it off the deck again.

But it's so rarely my focus on the range.

I disagree with the people suggesting you ditch the driver for a three wood. The modern drivers of today are built to minimize errors, much more than modern 3 woods.

The size of the club head should not be an issue unless you are skying shots off the top, or blading them off the bottom of the club. I would suspect that your inconsistent swing (as you put it) would be the problem. Since you said you seem to hit it fine on the first few holes I would suspect that you may have better posture, balance, and stability on those first few holes while something (like your legs) may begin to get lazy or overactive as the round progresses. Without seeing your swing there is no way to know for sure.
