Damage to driver!

Hey everyone,

I recently went to a new driving range with my driver, and over swung my follow through and hit a giant beam behind me. I seem to have damaged the head of my driver right under the toe. Now I know usually anything that's not on the face is usually just cosmedic, and won't affect your game. However with the position of this (the scuff is at the very bottom of the face, and a giant lip has seemed to form) I am concerned about it.

That is a pretty unique dent there, I'm not a golf club expert so can't really tell you if it will effect the entire face of the club. If it has done damage to the entire face I would think you would soon find out...however I think it should probably only immediately effect that specific little area where the lip has formed. So if you need to keep using that driver for a little while or whatever...my advice would be to hit the sweet spot.

Judging by the picture, I doubt it will affect the perfomance that much, if any at all.

That sucks, I know from experience. I broke my alltime favorite 3w in the same manner. Your club fared better than mine, mine split open around the equator. Have been looking for the same model and haven't found it yet.

I have a bigger hobby that golf and it is photography, you miss focused on the beam behind =) hehe for pictures like that put it into macro mode, and if it's an slr you're using then i'd guess you'd know you need a macro lens.

anyway, golf is a game where if something's on your mind it can affect your play. See if you have insurance on your credit card that covers it or something, or use it as a practice driver if it'll help you play better.

of course i hope you can still play with it, from the looks of it, it should help your play if you accidently hit the ball bottom toe and otherwise won't affect you much at all...

      My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.

      No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.

      I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
