Ok guys, i need some help. I'm looking at getting a new driver because the shaft of my driver is extremely whippy (causing me to push the balls right becuase the shaft is bending back and opening up the face of the driver. To get a stiff new shaft is fairly expensive, my friend is selling his Taylormade r7 425 and it would be cheaper to buy that that get a new shaft, seeing as the driver i have anyways isn't very nice i would have to get a new one at some point.

But i would also like to purchase a lob wedge, (and attack wedge maybe)
my best club for getting the ball in the air right now is my sand wedge, and its just not cutting it, i would also like some thing that i can put more spin on. Looking at the x-tour wedges possibly.

SOOO either way i would be paying about the same price which is about 150$

which one is a better buy and is going to help my game moreee...?

advice pleasseee

Also forgot to mention im on a tight budget, (in high school and have to pay for all my clubs) so GETTING BOTH IS NOT AN OPTION!

Id say go with the wedges, a good wedge setup is of much more value than a fancy driver, i just upgraded to CG14 wedges and have been shaving strokes off my handycap...

mkay, but im kind of leaning towards driver because the wedges are no good if im too busy looking for the ball i just put in the woods with my driver. lol plus smacking the ball 270 yards feels a hell of a lot better than chipping on the green.

OH MY GOD I CANT CHOOSE! lolllll

Short game is almost always more important than how well you do off the tee. Plus I have a hard time believing you put the ball in the woods every single time
âI'm glad I brought this course, this monster, to its knees.â

ok i dont put the ball in the woods everyime, but today i hit an errant drive resulting in a triple bogey, leaving me a daunting 6 over on the front nine... (its ok i ended up 2 over on the back nine) but still, is the principle of the matter.

Imagine golf without trees?
Its like a dream come true.

So use a 3-Iron and lean one 250. I'd get wedges, what feels better, coming in to the clubhouse with a 92 or an 82?

Pick up a second hand driver...they sell Launcher 400's for like $40 now, in great shape...anything with a stiff shaft is good enough, youy don't need all the fancy stuff at a 14 hdcp. A good set of wedges, and a good putter is your best bet on making that handicap get lower.

Dude, get the driver. Right now, at your age, you should be playing bombs away, gouge it out. 150's good price for a r7. Plus , you know you want it.

Yeah, a lot of pressure. Rise above it. Harness in the good energy, block out the bad. Harness energy, block bad.

If you really are hitting your driver 270 then I would suggest getting the wedge situation straightened out first and start driving with a 3W until you can either save up the money to get the the driver you want or else get your swing corrected so you can hit the driver you have. If you can hit a 3W 250 and hit it relatively straight you're still in great shape compared to the vast majority of amateur golfers. After all. How many holes do you play that really require a 270 yd. drive? 200+ into the middle of the fairway beats 270 into the woods every time. BTW: Are you sure your shaft is too whippy or is it possible that your lack of control is caused by a flaw in your swing? I thought the same thing about my driver but then I realized the problem was not the driver. It was the boy behind the driver.

Hmm.. If you really love your driver, id put out the extra money to get a stiff shaft, I'm going to get one today possibly. Its not that expensive. A new shaft is also $150 and its good quality too, I think you can get a Proforce or a Prolaunch for that money.

I would get the wedges, but that's just my opinion, I think they would save you more strokes, if your on a hole where hitting it off the fairway leads too a triple bogey you shouldn't be hitting a driver.

Belive me its the driver, i asked my golf pro if it was too whippy for me, he swung it a couple times and watched me swing it, told me i needed a new shaft or a new driver :)

gonna get a new driver because an r7 for 150$ is a good deal, plus i can make do with the sand wedge, for now. And i would have to replace my driver soon anyways. Better sooner than later.

Id say you can get both, check out Ebay....some good deals......look for good rep sellers. For example I got a mint 905 R to mess around with for $100 and a buddy of mine grabbed a HiBore XL for $100 as well.......and tons, yes tons of wedges are $30-$60.....check it out.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
