So I was wondering what you all thought would be the best loft of wedge for me to get, if only one wedge. I basically just started seriously getting into golf, although i have been paying on and off using my dad's clubs here and there my whole life. My current clubs are in my sig, and so far I was thinking 60*. My PW is at 45* and SW 55*. What would you all recommend if I were to only get one more wedge (CG14 by the way). Thanks in advance!

I would recommend getting a 52* wedge. You can learn to do most things that you want with a 55* wedge, and you need to fill the gap between the PW and the SW.

I hit the a 58 and a 60 and love both. However, you need a 50 far more than you need a lob wedge. Ten degrees between your pitching wedge and sand wedge is way too much. It's a gap wedge (50 in this case) that splits the two you have in half.

filling in the gaps is one of the best things you can do for your short game. It's nice to have a 60, but it is a must to keep the gaps between irons consistent.

I find that my 52* is almost pointless...I can swing my PW a tiny bit softer.

My 56* is my love-club...I love this thing. Perfect for chipping around the green and approach shots.

60* is just for getting over short trees, and for chipping with no green to work with. Perfect for flop shots.

I would rather have a 60 Wedge. A SW can easily go 100 yards and compensate for the Gap wedge, but FOR ME, its a little bit difficult to get less yardage...

Go for a Lob, it always works

I'm a big fan of a gap wedge. You may want to consider a 50*. Most of what you'd do with a 60° you can do with a 55, at least until you find tucked pins. I've rarely found tucked pins when I play, and when I do find them, I'm rarely short-sided.

Getting the gap wedge would make sense and definetely fill in that gap between the PW and SW, but I still feel its a bit unneccessary. I could basicaly just hit my SW a bit stronger, or PW a bit softer (big fan of my PW). I want more of a lob wedge that wold get me those nice finesse flop shots...60* too much? maybe 58*...?

A 52-58 combo is nice. Seriously, I'd get a gap wedge first. 60 degree is tough to get used to, especially off the fairway.

If your heart is set on a lob wedge, then I would recomend no higher than 60.
In my set my pw is 48, gap=52, sw=56, and lob wedge at 60. 4 degree's each.

I would recomend trying to keep the gaps as consistent as you can.

Like I said before, I hit my 60 degree more often than my 52.

Can I recomend getting both? I got my set of 3 alll at one time and they knocked 50 bucks off the price...

good luck

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
    • Day 136 12-26 Had a different practice planned today but life happened. Worked on "wide to wide" and still working on remaining flowy. Starting the club head in front of the ball as a drill, is helping with the flow of the swing.
