I played in an employee tournament today at a local course where it was captains choice, it was pretty fun.

My team didn't win, but we only lost by a stroke. We came in at 11 under so it was a close call.

I did win the long drive contest with a 310 yard drive, it was a $50 Visa gift card. That more than covered the entry fee and for getting second place, we got Callaway Golf gloves and a case of some cheap-o balls lol...

This was my first tournament so I was excited, I've been playing for less than two months, and things are coming together smoothly!

Um yeah....thats all. =] lol

I know it's not like USGA legit an all, but its good for my own knowledge until I can establish a handicap at a course that is recognized.

You don't have to believe me, it really doesn't matter, but if you're ever in NC, I'd love to play with you. I welcome anyone...

He could have really tried to bomb it, because of the mentality that it was the long drive hole. We'll never know, He didn't mention he constantly hits that. And maybe it wasn't 310 yards, but he won the long drive, so it must have been far.

To tell you the truth, I had no idea it was the long drive hole. (Which is why I probably did so well) If I knew it was the long drive hole, I would probably have tried to kill it and would have topped it or sliced the hell out of it. I didn't want to turn this thread into one where I have to prove myself to anyone. I do drive 280-320 yard holes consistently, WITH ROLL. If my short game was up to par, then I would be even less of a handicap, but I'm not because that's what I really need work on right now. I'm sorry if this game is incredibly hard for some but don't take it out on me. I'm no where near mastering it, but I have the basic concepts down, (grooving a consistent swing, slow && smooth, head down, etc..) I really wouldn't care if a moderator locked this thread or deleted it. I just wanted to share my "eventful" day with other golf enthusiasts. Sorry I'm new and not in any of your "clicks" yet, nor do I care to be anymore.

First, congrats. You've certainly earned the right to brag about that.

Second, we don't know your previous athleticism. A buddy of mine started out bombing it and only afterwards came around on his short game. He's been a natural athlete his whole life. I've been a computer nerd my whole life and didn't start out hitting past 200 consistently with my driver until maybe last summer. I'm willing to take your word for it on the length. As for the handicap, Larry Nelson was shooting in the 70s after less than a year of playing. According to Wikipedia - and backed by my memory of his "My Shot" interview - he broke 70 within his first year of playing. He took up the sport after college and went on to win majors. My point here isn't to suggest you're going to win a major in a few years (it's not to tell you not to try either ;) ), but to point out that it is possible.

Thank you Shindig. I genuinely appreciate that.

I am a natural athlete, not trying to toot my own horn. And I am very competitive and want to be the best at whatever holds my interest at the moment.

Golf has taken me by surprise because it can be so easy at times, and yet, incredibly hard at a lot of other times. My goal is to be a single digit handicap by the end of the summer, no matter how much practice, lessons, or hard work it takes. As it looks now, I'll be close to that goal soon.

I have realized golf is like motocross, your improvement gap shrinks majorly. Going from a regular scores of 95's to shooting 85's will come a lot faster than moving from 85's to a 75's, but I'll keep working at it.

Thanks again.

Funny you should say that: it's my goal too. I think you're more likely to achieve it. Despite golf not being won on long drives, your being 50+ yards closer to the hole than I am has to help. I bet your iron distances are past mine, too.

Regardless, congratulations again, and good luck on achieving your goal. I look forward to hearing how you're coming along with it.
