It had a point: consider women.

She didn't have a problem with men having private clubs, but she did have a problem with public courses (and some private courses that allow women to play) restricting women. Lots of women are tagged with "slow play" when they're actually faster. And most of the women I know try to follow the rules more than a lot of the guys. So I think she has a point. FWIW, Lake View has men's and women's times, in suitable proportion, and a good amount of "open" times.

she doesn't go far enough in my opinion. male patriarchal society is responsible all the wars and environmental degradation and thus endangering the survival of our species and many other life-forms. restriction of the women's tee times and club memberships is just a snowflake on the tip of the iceberg. to put it in perspective, having a penis enables one to twice the money earning potential than non-penis bearing members of society.

actually i don't argue this point, if someone can't see how mothers have great appreciation and insight into the sanctity of life, then i don't try to argue with them

I unno bout this.. to be honest i think part of her opinionated speech was hating on males and assuming the worst or at least describing it a bit harshly. Though at the same time she brings great points of stubern/racial men. Really it could go either way considering some of her points could have easily been made up. This is a prime example of a never ending debate with many strong opinions and of course plenty of arguements to boot.

It does have a point: the rest of the world doesn't restrict women, so why should golf?

FWIW, I'm fine with men's only clubs and women's only clubs, but I would have a problem with a club that allows both to join but restricts one on tee times, course treatment, etc. I wouldn't join, but I really wouldn't care beyond that. If a public course does this, I'd have a bigger problem. And the ranger telling women they're playing slow but not men? Women need to take this up with the ranger's boss. Since most rangers are, as was so eloquently said on this site not too long ago, glorified customer service reps, they do need to be put in their place if they are discriminating. If a woman is holding up play, she needs to be told this - but the same is true for a man. Me? I'm glad my home course finally gave a men's rating to the forward tees. And I saw a woman post a very-respectable 78 from the blues (6800+/71.9/119 for the men, not rated for the women), and I wonder why the blues aren't rated.

I am a man and I have experienced the same treatment that the author shares that women have received, whenever I have ventured into "in group" territory.

Many times, I have been treated like a second class human or sub human by members of "in groups" who think I am invading their playground, or territory. In groups are not limited to men and their clubs and special golf courses. I have had "in groupers" try to exclude me who were male, female, rich, poor, black, white, all religions. We have to remember that most people are not like the "In group Bigots". And I am thankful that the bigots fly their colors so quickly allowing me to discern people who I would rather not be around.

In summary: "Birds of a feather flock together." I would not want to belong to the Augustas of today because they are not the kind of people I would want to associate with or have my children seeing me associate with!

Sry but just seems like a rant in my opinion. One thing I dont get is if women want to take part in a mens event then why cant men take part in womans events? Because typically men are stronger and typically can hit farther. Now in golf compared to other sports I think it is more even because it aint about strength but alot of skill so this evens the playing field. So if woman and men want to compete together just go into the mixed events.

I don't think that the article is trying to say this. If it did, it would be a HUGE HUGE lie. There is still misogyny in many places around the world (and even here in the U.S.).

While the article did come off as a rant, i feel its needed every now and then because yeah - some girls can kick ass at this sport.

Thank goodness the courses around here are extremely fair. They don't care who you are, what you look like, or where you come from. The only rule is that if you are playing "couples" than each couple must be male/female. That's it. Other than that, it doesn't matter if you play with men, women or which tee-box you play from.

All the tee boxes out here are labeled as simply #1, #2, and #3. #3's are the front-most boxes, and I have only heard ONE person ever refer to them as "the ladies' tees". Since we just call them by the numbers, it helps maintain a bit of parity.

As a beginner, I hit off the #3's. Since I am simply focusing on consistancy and accuracy, I don't care about length at this time. So, allowing me to grab a more comfortable club instead of trying to cream a Driver means I get in better practice, I feel.

I sympathize with what some ladies probably have to go through. It sucks for them in certain areas, I'm sure.

Well, misogyny and restrictions on women are two different things. But sorry, I did make the usual mistake of "U.S. == World", when I should know better.

Outside of golf, are there really any restrictions on what women can do (from the set of things men can do) in the U.S.? I'll admit I haven't really looked into it.

Well - I'd agree that the two aren't exactly the same...I would say restrictions on women are a part of being misogynistic (ergh - is that a word? no red squiggly line so I'll assume it is) but doesn't necessarily mean that all restrictions on women mean you are being misogynistic.

As for your follow-up on whether or not it happens in the U.S. outside of golf - I'm sure there are. I remember the hooplah surrounded by Danica Patrick (spelling?) with racing. And lets not get started on corporate hiring policies (not written in stone, but it's pretty obvious which sex is favored).
