Just recently added the 54.5 and has made all the difference in the world from 100 in. Was always hitting half wedge or 3/4 something. Lob is mainly for green side and bunkers.

This is so interesting. As I just got back into the sport, I am amazed at all that has changed. We used to have a pw and a sw or lw, now everyone carries more. I have a used set of Pings comign that has the pw, gap, sw, and lw. I am excited to see how they are and what I can do. I am really interested in the gap/approach wedge the most.

My? is, I see some of you use various brands, even for your pw. Does that sorta throw you off using a different pw than what your other longer irons might be, or do you approach all wedges as we used to with sw and lw? I guess I sorta looked at sw/lw as whole other breeds back then.

Even though I have those coming, I looked at the Vokeys today and thought that spin milled looked and felt great...If I cannot draw/backspin (at all), would one of those designs at least help the ball check more often for me? I can check it maybe 30% of the time, so anything would help that aspect.

4.
46* pw 125yds, med bump n runs
50* gap 110-125yds
54* sand 70-110yds, greenside chips, 40-70 yd pitches
60* close greenside chips, flops

The SM Vokeys, as well as any other brand of quality wedges will allow you to spin it back on full wedge shots, under the right conditions- soft greens, high spin ball, descending blow/pinch. The wedges will def help with ball checks on even hard distance balls- hop and check, release. If you're used to hitting the ball short of the pin and letting the ball release, then new wedges will really help. If you plan to use a high spin ball, start hitting the ball past the pin on full wedge shots. It's amazing to watch a ball stick the green and spin back....past the hole and 15' back =/ so if you hit them short, you're chipping from the fringe.

I carry 4 wedges.

46* Srixon I-701 PW
50* Callaway X-Forged Vintage
54* Callaway X-Forged Vintage
58* Callaway X-Forged Vintage (C-Grind Sole)

I like having the same feel coming from the three Callaway wedges so I'm sticking with keeping those three the same brand. I have yet to take a full swing with any of the Callaway wedges on the course. For me the PW is a completely different club with a different intended purpose compared to the wedges so a very different design is fine with me.

Two - 45° PW and 56° SW. I've got 4 more in the garage, but I score much better when they stay there.

I learned the game with 1 wedge, got better with 2 wedges, started to lose my short game when I went to 3 and then 4. Dropped back to 2 and now I'm playing better again. Guess the extra wedges just confused me .... fewer clubs means easier decisions.

I've carried 3 for a long time, but only used 2 (King Viper SW/PW and rarely used a Donlop Flop wedge I had). I'm dropping the F Wedge for now but may drop a 3-iron or an off-brand hybrid I have but have been hitting it very well for a pitching wedge with a 50's degree. Who knows right now. If i can hit the Nike hybrid well, I'll drop one and add another pitching wedge.
