I'm buying a new driver and I want to know what you guys think is the best driver I can get for the best price right now. I'm going to try them out once I get some suggestions. I can't spend more then $200.

My old driver I could hit 260-270 max. It’s probably over 10 years old and it’s getting gouged and scraped to the point that it’s affecting my shots. The club face was about as high as the diameter of a ball. Very small compared to the clubs I see now but I liked it. I swing pretty fast, if that matters (I can just change the shaft). My higher handicap comes from 2-3 putting every hole (I hate putting).

I can get a used titleist 905R, 9.5* for around $150 but I won’t have an opportunity to demo it. Anyone like/dislike this club? I think it’s a very good price after looking on ebay.

Thanks for the help guys.

You can't really go wrong with a Taylor Made driver.

Look at the r7 460 driver...

Maybe the Nike SQ 5000?

Does the R7 come without the draw weight or is the R7 Draw the only one they sell?

Try the r7 425, or the r7 460, they come with movable weights.

It comes neutral, like a regular driver..but if you slice/hook it, you can change the weights around if you want.

I've hit the r7 and liked it. But I chose the Nike SuMo when I bought mine because it was pretty forgiving. You just have to get past the sound it makes.

I don't understand why everyone hates the sound ... I LOVE it.

I love the Sumo sound~!
I bought a used R7 460 (moveable weights) and love it. FOund a used Sumo sq. and bought it for the sound alone, the day after I got the 460. Anyways, as much as I tried to play the Sumo, I just couldn't. Ended up taking back the Sumo for some hybrids. I kept the r7 460 and love it. I have a small slice and with the weights it really helps keeping it in the fairway. I'm not along hitter, but I hit that sucker pretty far.
I think someone had one for sale on here actually.

Ah, Nice to see another Winnipegger here. How far are you away from golf town? The r7 Draws are on for $198 try ebay as well, thats where I got 2 of my clubs.

What course do you play at?

The R7 is probably the best deal out there. I heard the Nickent drivers aren't too bad from a few people that play at my local course. Just go to a driving range or store (ex. Golfsmith) and try some out and see which one feels best for you and get fitted for it.

I would suggest the Tour's Edge Bazooka JMAX, which is $150(i believe) and performs very well. It comes in a draw or neutral model, and my father has the draw which he likes and I think it's great for the money. I would NOT purchase any driver without trying it, because I know that I personally don't like the Titleist driver. If I were you I would look at a used R580xd which you could probably get for about $60.

The Nickent 3dx square headed driver with UST Proforce V2 shaft was only $100 a few days ago at Golftown. I think it is still on sale, but at $150 now. Might want to give that a try. Golftown also has the Callaway Big Bertha 460 for $188.

I live near the mint, but I work at the airport so GT is on my drive home. That R7 did catch my eye but I don't want a draw weighted club.

I play at windsor park GC a lot for some cheap practice but last year I went to Teulon, Falcon lake, Quarry Oaks, Kildonan GC, Selkirk and a few others. My friend's brother got a job at Niakwa CC this year so he going to try to get me in for a few rounds. You know any good courses I should try?

a friend of mine is all about his new hibore XL. he got it online new for around $140-170 shipped, i cant remember the exact number. he says its super forgiving and really likes it. it may be something to look into.

"im sorry, i cant hear you over the sound of how right i am."

While he did say he doesn't want an r7 draw, I got mine for only $124 from "itaintpretty".

Ya i live around there too, North Kildonan. I love Selkirk as well.

I frequently play at Kildonan, Meadows on the Highway. and Transcona. Definatly go play Meadows, a great links course. Also try Rossmere (Off of raleigh) I used to have a membership there. I'm going to golf town tomorrow, I'll take a look at some Drivers under $200 for you and let you know if you are too busy to take a look.

    • This. Aaaannnnd.... this.  Our Wednesday Night league uses that MLR and it definitely helps pace of play.  The ONLY issue that we've ever had has now kind of gone away. A few years back they started using the rule and there were a number of arguments about if the person was hitting 4 or hitting 3. Some players were pretty adamant that they were now hitting 3. The folks who actually knew the rule of course knew that they should be hitting 4. I say that and also let you know that there were actually golfers who thought going OB means you drop near OB and are now hitting 3.
    • I've come across a unique situation for handicapping, and with the changes to 10-17 hole round posting, I'm not 100% sure how to handle it. Right now, my home course is re-doing a few holes. 2 holes are playing to temporary greens (holes 4 and 9). I played in a match 2 days ago at this course, and the person that normally posts the scores has no idea how to handle this. I'm not entirely sure what he's thinking, but it seems like he's operating under the old rules where you'd just post par plus handicap strokes for any holes not played.  I think the correct way to do this now is not post scores for holes 4 and 9 and the expected score algorithm will take care of this. Is that correct? I've poked around the handicap manual and that seems to make the most sense, but the clarifications to handicap rule 3.2b are tripping me up a bit. As far as I know, the course has not gotten the CGA to do anything like temporarily re-rate the course or to tell everyone to score net par on the closed holes. I think that means we're in expected score land, but I wanted to see what others thought here.
    • 22 points in a gross Stableford is solid. Nice job.
    • I use a putting mirror often. Mine also lets you put the tees in it to set up barriers on either side of your putter to make sure I'm striking the ball near the center of the putter face.  In fact, I putt with the mirror at least weekly on my indoor mat. Opinions are like backsides; Everyone has one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks. But in my opinion it really helps. I have a tendency if left unchecked to get my eyeline way inside the target line. Using a putting mirror regularly keeps my set up way more consistent. I don't know if I can back it up with any data but "I believe" it has lead to far greater putting consistency over the past few years.  I also like gates. There are a few gate drills I think help. Basically day-15 of the 30-day Covid Challenge: Check it out here: I actually have a set of putting gates, which my mom got me for Christmas about 10 years ago. But you can use anything from golf balls to soup cans.  I also have a "Perfect Putt" and I like it but wouldn't swear by it. I will say it travels well and I've been known to bring it with me on trips and putt in my hotel room with it.  Lastly, I have a set of Devil Balls.  Amazon.com I'm not impressed with the Devil Balls. I actually don't like them at all. If you'd like the set I have I'll send them to anyone who's willing to pay the shipping.
