How many putts do you take per round.

Mine is hovering around 30 and Im a 9 handicap with at least 2 three putts in a round. Is that a pretty good number?

Just looked in my scorecard software and it says 32 per round. Mine could be slightly lower as I sometimes count fringe putts. If it's just off the edge of the dancefloor I count it as a putt. I know that statistics wise on tour that's not considered a putt.

Yea. If I'm not far off the green, maybe about a foot, I'll count it as a putt.

My average in Scorecard is right at 35...last month it was 36.25, so it's improving. Over my last 5 rounds it's 33, with 3 of those rounds being 31 or less.

Scorecard (the software) tells me my yearly average is 28.00 on the nose. That beats last year, when I averaged 30.1, and is one of my 2008 goals, I believe.

You shouldn't do this IMO, the software is meant to count putts only on the green, period. Erik designed it that way because that's the true count of putts. You can sure do it that way if you like but you have to know your statistics will be skewed!

Lowest putts I've had is 31 a couple of times, I would say mine averages around 35 per round.

Erik, are you holing a lot of 6-8 footers this season, or has your short game improved to the point that you're getting up and down with gimme putts more frequently? A little of both?

Last two years I have averaged 33.5 per round. This year I'm up to 34.1. Most of it is due to missing some extremely close putts less than 2'. I can remember about 1/2 dozen in the last 10 rounds I have missed. Some though could not be considered easy since hole position was on the edge of a slope or spine and I have lately been finding I have been putting these from the opposite side. It's been a blowup season on GIR putts as well which doesn't help.

http://thesandtrap.com/training/z_fa...machine_review My short game's actually been worse this year (until just recently, like the past two weeks).

If you arent actually on the green, I dont think you can consider it a putt. Even if you are on the fringe and use your putter, I think you still have to consider that a chip.

That's what I do. I'll have some rounds where I have very few putts (like 24 or so) and my up and down percentage is really good, but I won't hit many greens. Odds are I was putting from the fringe a lot.

So yeah, count it the only official way it's counted: as NOT a putt. Your up-and-down stats will improve. And yeah, if you're using different definitions than virtually everyone else, your stats can't reasonably be compared to anyone else's.

I've been keeping track of my putts this year and have found it to be bvery consistent. 30 is the low number, and I don't usually go above 33. I have not had 29 or lower yet (been tracking for about a dozen rounds), and I usually have a 3 putt in the mix.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
