A handicap is a handicap no matter what you play - but it is all based off of 18 holes

what i mean is this:

in my league my handicap is 6 for all of the four nine hole courses we play. So when someone asks my handicap do i reply 6 or 12?

I would have to say a 12 - if you are shooting around 42-44 for 9 then its based off of 9 -if you are under 40 then it is probably for 18 - and that is if you play a normal course that is not excessively easy or hard

...it almost sounds like you are giving a league-specific handicap. You might be better off asking your league director to determine whether they are calculating your handicap traditionally or for 9 holes.

Usually, if you are playing a 9-hole course you will multiply your score and whatever par is x2 and use that to figure you handicap.

Mmmmm, no, that's not how it works, and doesn't answer the question.

To the OP: if you get six shots on 9 holes, answer "12" when someone asks you your handicap; unless they're asking you as you're about to tee off in your league, because then you can assume they're probably asking for your league handicap so they can keep score. :)
